Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman, Tyson Alualu agreed to a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The deal is worth $6 million.

Alualu (33) was originally drafted 10th overall in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Jaguars where he spent seven years. Alualu has been a staple in Pittsburgh’s running defense since 2017 and we wish him the best as he returns to his former team.

Tyson Alualu, 33, is getting $6 million on his two-year deal with Jacksonville, per source.

Solid in his time here but two years 6 mil Steelers were not going that route. Hopefully they can pick up a true NT in the draft.

Honestly aren't they paying Derek Watt that. 3 million isn't much for a semi starter.
I think they will probably go with Buggs and Carlos Davis at NT. Both younger and cheaper.
Derek needs to be utilized at FB. The guy was a beast with the Chargers but Cool Shades doesn’t use him much at FB. So we essentially paid 3 mil for Watt to play ST. That’s stupid!

Davis and Buggs in the middle. Hopefully both make a leap. Mondeax was filling in on the end, I believe, and went from PS to playing by the end of the year? You could actually see Mondeax improve from one game to the next. Hopefully, our D-line will hold up. Heyward is going to start to decline soon. Not sure Tuitt is good enough to anchor our D-line in a couple years so that is a growing concern.

I wanted Tyson here but as they say........................................FO knows best.!

Salute the nation

That winning season is looking further and further from reality for next season. Tomlin will need those shades for sure so we will not see those deer in the head light look as soon as he steps on the field.

I’m banking on the team has a plan theory and I know we have very little cap space but we sure have lost a lot in two days. But I think we can replace Tyson, Hilton by Sutton, Bud will be a tough one but we shall see what Highsmith can do, Feiler by Banner and Chuks.
just heard on Madden they released Vince Williams so that’s 4 million.

Alualu will be missed.....to me, it is a big hole.

The Steelers have historically been pretty good at finding depth along the DL in free agency. Alualu was terrific in his time here and hopefully they can find another veteran who can contribute.

Just remember the next time anyone brings up a player taking less to play on a winner... they usually don’t... its a job... 90% of them would trade a surefire super bowl win for a few extra hundred grand per year... the jags are a bad team... but they have oodles of cap space so they will get guys there with no problem

Maybe the Steelers liked what they saw from Buggs...I know I did.

I didn't think he really did anything notable. What I remember is he was struggling against the run.

You didn't think his two stops of Lamar Jackson on third and fourth down inside the Steelers' 10 yard line with 2 minutes left in a 4-point game against the Ravens were "notable"?

Yeah I remember that game. When he strings together more perhaps it would memory stick. Right now he is the Anthony Chickillo of the Dline. As I need to see more.

lol

That Ravens game was one of two where Buggs saw more than 25% of the snaps in any of the 10 games in which he played. And he produced 5 tackles and a QB hit while playing only 41% of the snaps in that game.

Buggs had 7 solo tackles and 11 total tackles in 131 snaps. Alualu had 17 solos and 38 total tackles in 448 snaps. The exact same total tackle-to-snap ratio, in fact.

What more did you want to see from the guy in that amount of playing time? Besides spearheading a game-winning stand against the Ravens, I mean?

I want to see he can consistently stuff the run before I anoint him capable. In other words too small of a sample size. Be careful comparing him to a Steeler no longer on the roster perhaps they saw some decline in Alualu towards the end as well. We might be talking about two not good enoughs. Only time will tell.

Davis moved ahead of Buggs last year so hopefully Davis makes a huge year 1 to 2 leap and maybe Buggs makes a nice leap as well going from year 2 to 3. Alualu was a great find and did well for us for a few years. I would have liked him back for another couple years myself. 2 years, $6 million should have been palatable but either he wanted to go back to Jax for some reason or we had other plans of some wild-*** sort.

All they need from either of these guys is good, fundamental football. Getting pressure from up front is nice, but the Steelers defense used to dominate with the front just playing smart football. Btw, I'm still taking Jaylen Twyman.

I also liked Davis and Mondeaux, Topseed, but I'm very happy with Buggs as well!

Very interesting....
