Steelers Free Agent thread

One down.... Bell and Timmons too please.........
 
we have a nice list of RFA and ERFA that will be kept for depth. I like the youth movement, there are a lot of contributors there
 
both good signings. dumb question since the league year isnt over can some of these guys sign a deal and have some of their$$ hit this year?

No, I don't believe they actually put pen on paper till the new league year starts.
 
No to Timmons. Look, he's been a great Steeler and I wish him the best, but he has flat out SUCKED in coverage the past two years. And since our coaching staff is flat out incapable of changing schemes, we obviously will continue to use him "covering" TEs and slot receivers. With that in mind, NO THANKS!

I thought about that, but he was very solid for the Steelers this year, yinz better draft or bring in somebody if not. Because Williams is even worse in coverage.

I keep Timmons at 4-5 mil/yr, 2-3 year deal. Can consider cutting Gay as well.

So you think Vince Williams will be better? Timmons has to come back or were gonna have a huge hole in the middle of our defense. He shouldn't be in coverage but we're just gonna have to deal with it because we have nothing else. Can't draft another MLB. We need OLB.

He had a couple key interceptions this year so I wouldn't say he flat out sucked in coverage. His pick against Eli in the red zone was a turning point in that game. Uncle Jarvis flat out sucks...Timmons is at least worthy of starting. I wouldn't bring him back for a ton of money but I would still welcome him back with a cap friendly deal until a successor can be found.
 
There could be an argument that we could let Timmons go and re-sign Sean Spence back from Tennessee just to add depth to the ILB group. He stayed healthy and did okay this past year including 6 starts and 3 sacks.

If you want money for a big name free agent or to keep Brown happy, these type of minor cost saving lateral moves might be okay to consider. I mean we could probably survive with a depth chart at ILB of Shazier, V. Williams, Spence and Matakevich.

If we got better play from the edge, I think those guys could work.

that's to blame on defensive playcalling, can't leave him exposed covering a slot WR or a fast TE, he's good blitzing and stopping the run

Both guys suck in coverage. Between the two, I think Williams is better against the run at this point in Timmons career. Timmons would make great depth now imo. I'm still high on Matakevich and would like to see him get some reps as a starter

Not a chance in hell that Williams is better in run support then Timmons.
