Steelers -chiefs game day thread - lets get it !!

Yes but that is not applicable to the conversation as per the STEELERS,, Lebeau did very well as DC in Pittsburgh under Cowher and a couple years with Tomlin with the talent that he had. Made the schemes/plays work as to the talent on the field.

Until he didn't. Talent on the field is the big difference right now. We have some great players and some young players but not the talent we had when Tomlin first got here. It is also a product of the NFL and their rules.

Say what you will but LeBeau coached his teams as to the talent on the field and whatever the rules were at the time. He did not try to pound a square peg into a round hole which is what I've been seeing since Tomlin assumed control of the D about 6-7 years ago and I have been studying Steeler Ds for a long time.

Agree with you on the NFL aspect, except the Jaguars seem to have figured it out. Great defense and a mediocre offense. They’re doing it with Blake Bortles for goodness sake. Blake Bortles! I credit their coordinator on defense.

His last year or two he seemed to do exactly that though, it is why we all felt is was time for him to retire, not changing with the times, I feel Butler though has been more of the same.

I also think Blake is under rated a bit.

His last couple years here are when Tomlin started getting more involved, and Butler just holds the DC title, Tomlin runs that **** show.

But he did let young talent rot on the bench for 3 years before getting them on the field because his "defense was too complicated for young players."

I agree, Butler is a LeBeau disciple and we're seeing some of the same crap, minus him playing younger players.

Look it is not like we lost to scrubs today. Hell we beat them soundly if we put a team on the field for the first quarter. In fact as much as I am mad at Tomlin for his punting, once again he did not lose this team at all on this game or at least the offense. We could have folded easily after being down 21 and did not. If we can find any defense we will be right in the thick of things. One stop and we probably win this damn game.

Bullshit, we could play until tomorrow and we were not beating the Chiefs today. They scored whenever they wanted and after all the momentum at the half they came out and went 75 yars in 2 minutes and put the game away in the 3rd quarter. The team came out flat and did not make any adjustments on defense.Expect more of the same with the moron tomlin.

What young talent? Everyone makes this argument, but what young talent? Timmons and Woodley played alot as rookies, Woodley was the starter his 2nd season, what young talent exactly????

**** it...Yeah our defense is great..Continue on Lebanon and 43 but forgive me if I jump off this trainwreck of a D

Hold up. I never said our defense is great. Hell I didn't even imply it.

Also, LeBeau's defenses were good and there were not a lot of immediate holes that needed filling by rookies. Our entire secondary and ILBs are poor and could be replaced butn instead we give a POS like Williams a new 4 year deal. Expect more of the same as long as the moron Tomlin is here

Serious question, how many of our defensive starters would be major contributors elsewhere? Our coaches all coach scared, the talent level on that side of the ball is pathetic.

Heyward, Tuitt, Williams, Watt, Haden(when he is on the field)

Watt is doing well with the skills he arrived with. Can't see where he has progressed into anything special. In my opinion these guys are not being developed into the players that they should be and the schemes are not being designed to the talent that they have. In my opinion (for what that is worth (nothing)) a professional coaching staff would take them into the realm of greatness or at least above average which we have not seen since Tomlin took control of this D 6+ years ago. Along the same lines as Munch has done with his line of nobodys for the past several years.

Hopefully bad Fitzpatrick shows up, but I doubt it.

He got swag

I think it’s scheme and coaching. They are planning to what Blake does well and heavy, fast, ferocious, and fearless defense.

It’s weird, but it’s like a bad Freaky Friday type of thing going on. The Jags play like the Steelers on the field and we’re becoming the Jags. I don’t like it I tell ya!
