Steelers Begin Cut Down to 53

Our defense is so much faster overall......but people have to see the field.

I don't like their RB and TE depth. Everything else looks gtg.

Yeah I agree, the RB room definitely needs a veteran presence. I heard some tidbit that the Steelers are looking for a TE though, so this final 53 isn't actually final.

Not worried about RB, JaySam showed he can play. If he and Conner both go down, it won't make any difference anyway.

Maybe they see something in Gentry, but TE does seem paper thin.

Btw, congrats to big Fred Johnson for coming in as an UDFA and making the team. I guess it would be appropriate to repost this from our post-draft thread. ;)

Indeed, he's probably the most impressive UDFA this year. We know the Steelers love their Florida linemen - Starks, Gilbert, Pouncey - is Fred Johnson next in line? Sure, he went undrafted, but the kid is massive and shows tackle/guard capability.

Johnson’s versatility a strength on UF offensive line

Fred Johnson makes list of best players who went undrafted.

Fred Johnson, OG, Florida. Playing next to Jawaan Taylor, Johnson came close to matching the second-round pick's power at the point of attack and moved well to the second level in the run game. He has inconsistent hand placement in pass protection but is a mountain of man who's hard to move.

Btw, it occured to me they can IR (designated to return) Ola, and sign Holton right back, if they want to go down that road.

My other thought regarding the roster is they better move Skipper right up to OLB #3 and play him ahead of Chickillo on defense. It should be Skipper & Ola (when healthy) rotating in on D. Chick should be ST only, in my opinion.

The next 24-36 hours could still be fluid as far as adding-substracting players, it usually is. I wouldn't set the roster in concrete just yet.

Maybe, but with a waiver position (20?), realistically what's going to be out there?

Just hoping those they want on the PS survive tomorrow.

Maybe they bring in Shady McCoy.

I hope not, he will think that he deserve a certain amount of touches and mess up the chemistry. If Connor doesn't get hurt there will not be many touches left for another back.

Well thats just it... until you know who you have on the PS tomorrow you really don’t know where you have to make moves at... well except TE... with only 5 wideouts they absolutely need another TE... it’s borderline absurd in this nfl to only have 5 wr positions on the squad even if 5 wr formations can be filled with rbs and tes...

No that is just bad thinking.. running the wheels off of backs has ruined way too many rbs for the Playoffs... i would rather have connor lose 30% of his snaps to a legit backup and be fresh and healthy for the playoffs than have him outstat everyone but be at 80% or less when it matters

Ahem, fixed it for you, starting RB and all. While I'm at it, it's Noll. :welcome1:

True you don't want to run the wheels off, but you also don't want another egomaniac in here like L. Blount.

Just waiting for more ground breaking news ...... Tomlin signs DHB to complete the 6 receiver corps

I'll always have huge respect for DHB. Why? Because he was drafted very high in the first round and touted to be a star receiver by the Raiders. Of course he didn't deliver on his hype and is universally known as a massive draft bust. The Raiders were widely ridiculed for drafting him after it become obvious early on that he wasn't panning out. How did he respond after the Raiders gave up on him? Did he pout, quit playing and give up on his dream? Nope, he swallowed all of his pride and restyled himself into a role player for years by doing a completely glory less job. He didn't care about accolades. He wanted to keep playing and be an asset to a team and he found a way, all while being a great teammate. Huge props to DHB. He showed that he had great character in him. He became our version of Steve Tasker.
