My take from that preseason schedule is. The Steelers will open the regular season on the road.

I agree. It does seem to be a pattern. Even though it's preseason and they are picking players I still count it as true gameseven though they don't count. I think it always seem we hit the road too.

The Pirates are home for opening weekend. So I think it's a safe bet our first home game will be Sept 16 . Bucs are home the following weekend too

I really dont know why the pre season schedule isnt the same each year. They should be regional non conference games, with the exceptions being when you are playing the non conference team in the reg season. With the schedule formula they use, you play in every season each year.

Using this the Steelers would have a look something like....
Carolina
Detroit
Philadelphia
Washington

When we play the NFCE swap out phl and was with gb and chi
When we play the NFCN swap out with the NYG

Preseason is handled by the individual teams, with the NFL handling the schedule. They can “contract” out a series (like we have with Carolina). Most teams look for teams with a low travel footprint. Philly - Pack are travel small, as is TN. Never understood getting a preseason game with a regular season opponent though.
