Troy saves 2.5 or something if pre-June 1 cut. If designated as after June 1, it saves 6 mil, but only can be used after June 1...to sign draft class.

Cap room right now is about $7 million. Waiting on Polamalu's decision. Waiting on extensions to Roethlisberger and Heyward. Waiting on Cam Thomas to be released.

Could open up significantly more money....

They could always restructure someone and add 6 million in cap space now, release Troy after June 1st and roll over the 6 million to next year's cap to make up for it. Only a little creativity is needed, although they could still be holding out hope that he retires.
 
It appears that Troy is done on the field but if they brought him back with a straight 3.75M-4.5M reduction he could still serve a purpose in certain packages and we'd free up the amount of reduction(although would have his dead money next season).

DEAR GOD NO!!! It's time to go cold turkey on Troy. Rip the band-aid off and let the wound heal. No bringing him back and paying him MILLIONS to get on the field in sub packages. No bringing him back to "mentor" the young'uns. No .. No ... NO! Hopefully he retires and can be honored as the warrior he WAS. But please, no more Troy on the field.
