Steeler Coaches grade QB pressures. The leaderboard:

Harrison 3
Tuitt 3
Dupree 2
Moats 2
Shazier 1
WAllen 1
Heyward 1
Boykin 1

Everyone else, zero.

^^ Some thoughts on a very detailed report.

1 ) Jarvis Jones has zero QB pressures.

2 ) Dupree has 2 sacks and 2 QB pressures. Pretty good for a rookie.

3 ) Heyward's play has taken a step back. He was rather poor vs the Rams, with just 1 tackle for the game.

4) I'd like to see Chickillo get a crack on some of Jones reps just to see what he can do.
 
Yet we keep hearing from the Steelers that Jarvis is playing better. Hmmm! Man this is year 3 and he has what, 3 total sacks. He has got to turn it up several notches this year or we have to start looking in another direction.
 
The front 7 overall has had a hard time generating pressure. This defense needs a dominate nose tackle to get going. Heyward and Tuitt would be tons better if the Steelers had a Casey Hampton type nose tackle taking on double teams. I'd even go as far as to say that Jarvis would look decent too because the linebackers would be free to rush most of the time
 
I'm done with Jar Jar, so there's not much left for me talk about there. Heyward's slow start this year is a bit concerning. Glad that Tuitt is coming on though. Here's to hoping that somebody puts Flacco on his backo a few times tonight.

I've been preaching for years that this football team does not have the NT to make this defense dominant again. McClendon is not a NT and would be better suited playing of the end. Big Dan is certainly big enough but seems to lack the intensity it takes to play the position. With a dominant NT the front seven could be so much better.

Big Dan would be an improvement for the line, but he's injured.

Not sure who's doing the counts, but I've seen JJ get pressure. Not sure if a Hurry is counted differently than a pressure, but I'm not about to go all in for this arbitrary statistic. We're getting sacks, and that's way better than our D the last couple years.

The Steelers are currently tied at #6th for sacks (8 year to date). I would say that we are doing a pretty good job of applying pressure on the QB.

Also, I dont know who is coming up with 'pressure' stats (which are pretty subjective to say the least), but I have seen JJ in the backfield making plays a handful times. My only beef with him is his poor tackling.

They're getting pressure. Jarvis still sucks at rushing the passer though. I'm also in the camp of wanting to see Chickillo get some of Jarvis' pass rush snaps
 
I'm still holding a glimmer and I do mean a glimmer of hope for Uncle Jarvis. This is make or break year so its now or never. I hated this pick but thought they must know something we all weren't aware of. I'd like to see this guy have a breakout game starting tonight to build some confidence not only in him but for us as well.
 
Jarvis is a poor tackler. He also gets easily manhandled at the line of scrimmage.

The only time I saw Jones in the Rams game was when he was in coverage and missed the tackle at the line of the scriamge. Jones was drafted to rush the passer.

Its only three games but zero QB pressures for the year combined with his past history of of 24 games played with just three sacks tells the tale. The Jury is almost in. I suspect a BUST verdict. And I'm okay with that if it gets Dupree or Chickillo more snaps.
 
Well their grading system is pretty poor than. Someone had a cut up of Jarvis improving in the Pats game. He bull rushed his guy right into Brady. Brady threw one up and the guy was wide open. It should have been an interception as the ball duck flew to the guy. It was much like Allen's game ending interception last week. Pressure caused the errant pass that sailed over the receiver.

I recall Jones having two great pressures on Brady in the opener, though he has pretty much been missing in action against the pass since.

I know QB pressure is a subjective term, but these "statistics" seem somewhat bogus to me, especially given what I've seen from the Steelers thus far.

I'm actually encouraged by what I'm seeing from the front 7. It's hard not to be optimistic about what the likes of Tuitt, Dupree and Shazier (when healthy) have shown. Heyward and Timmons also have their moments, though I do not think their consistency, or lack there of, warrants their Allpro level salaries.

The secondary is just such a ******* joke. The Steelers essentially have a pair of average, to be generous, safeties and two or three decent nickel backs occupying their top two CB positions.

Well stated. I think Cockrell and Boykin has a chance of passing the highly paid Cortez Allen on the depth chart this season.
 
I have no idea what this statistic is or how they determine a pressure from a hurry or any other arbitrary defensive stat, but James effing Harrison at 38 years old and still playing at a pretty high level is amazing.

Jones is getting in there. He just runs in like a mad man and misses the tackle. In fact I thought that worked well against San Fran. He kept playing Kaepernick into Shazier's hands. If the Defense can utilize an OLB, ILB tandem, then go for it. I do feel this defense can be better with a dominate NT

A good question is what is a " QB Pressure" I'd define it as forcing to QB to do something he doesn't want to in one second or less. or he's toast. Running away from a sack, Breaking a tackle to avoid a sack, throwing it away avoiding a sack,....etc...
 
I no Pom Pom waiving Jarvis fan but he's had at least one qb pressure

If the coach says we don't feel comfortable with player X's knowledge of his assignments. I'd trust that. I'm not going to argue. He has a great deal more knowledge than I do and he is with the player in practice and team room. But if they say someone hasn't had a pressure, when I've seen him apply a pressure, I can argue that. And as stated, I would hardly consider me an Uncle Jarvis supporter.

Naw, I'm going to take the approach the Coach Haters take. Rather than acknowledge something that disputes my point of view .. I'm just going to ignore it and keep on saying what I've been saying .. :pimp:

Not sure I've heard anyone argue about a players knowledge of their assignments. Like I said, several on here use the "I trust the coaches more than you idiots" line when the coaches say anything they personally believe. When they don't then it becomes "I know what I saw". Just because coaches say something doesn't make it true. Just like when Tomlin benched Starks to play Scott. He didn't know WTF he was doing and had to go back to Starks ASAP. And I can point out many other examples.

I have no problem believing my own eyes and disagreeing with the coach... but I've never made the blanket statement about trusting the coaches.

The coaches aren't disputing my point of view. They can say whatever they want. But that doesn't change reality. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are covering their ***.

BTW it's the people that say "I'll trust the coaches" that are now ignoring it and keep saying what they've been saying.
