The steelers have added a bunch of new players to the team on what will become a temporary basis for many of them. They started the off season with 47 from the previous years team. That looks like six spots for sure are open. Out of the new guys how many new faces do you think will be on the team this year and who are your prospects at this time that look like they have what it takes to make the 53. Also how many guys do you think do not stick on the roster because they will be replaced by a new guy.

My first vote goes to Cam Thomas being replaced. so that makes room for seven guys.:cents:

Competition at the LB position is gonna be intense...im gonna love this training camp and pre-season. Theres a wait-and-see approach on Shazier, and a Do now- or get off the pot approach with Jarvis. Theres hunger and drive with Spence and Williams and the much heralded #1 pick Dupree...Durpee to some..........James, Lemon and Moats, we will see............

Also excited to see who pans out on the Oline.........receivers, I think DHB is relegated to STs, if Coats shows flashes...........

It will be fun to watch the competition at LB, that is certain.

I really hope the competition doesn't include a wonderlics test...

Speakin of wonderlics, I WONDER how many LICKS it takes to get the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop?

Too many for Durpee to count according to Coach. (BAZINGA!!!)

It looks to me there will be serious battles up and down the roster for spots, should be real exciting to see how it plays out.

The running backs will battle it out, we're gonna need depth there even if DeAngelo has plenty of gas left... I think both those UDFA guys will get a look....and Josh Harris may be back better than he was last year.

Interior Oline should be fun to see with the undrafted guards and centers. I like what I've read about those kids. Would be great to find a gem there in either Finney, Dieffenbach or Dismukes. Good to see Munchak get some young linemen in to work with.

The rookie corners... how quickly can Lake get them up to speed? Is Golson the diamond in the rough Colbert & Co see in him? We'll find out soon enough.

At linebacker my guess is Dupree nails down a starting gig. I've seen Moats penciled in as a starter, as he should be, but that D needs weapons and they know it. Butler's gotta be chopping at the bit...

Looking forward to the camp battles, that's for sure.

Moats
Harrison
J. Jones
Dupree
Chickillo
Lemon
H. Jones
Shazier
Timmons
Spence
Williams
Garvin

How many stay, and who?

And I'm really pulling for Finney to make the team, as well as Ross Scheuerman (over Archer).. Also hoping Landry gets replaced by maybe another OL/DL/LB/DB and Cam gets replaced by LT Walton

Moats, Harrison, Jones, Dupree, Shazier, Timmons, Spence, Willams, Garvin and H. Jones. I think we carry two extra for special teams spots.

Lemon is my darkhorse. Chicklet is a PS player all the way.

So you think Spence will be cut.

^^^That just happened!

Depends. He needs to beat out Zumwalt. Zumwalt was very active in his limited time in the pre-season, then got hurt. Steelers usually keep 4 ILB's. Sometimes they keep 5.

I think Spence is a little short, a little light, and not fast enough. He was Demoted out of the nickel defense. Vince Williams took his spot. Love Williams game. He's a poor man's Levon Kirkland.

If Vince Williams keeps developing he might be Timmons' successor playing next to Shazier who can complement his lack of coverage abilities. And it would be a cheap in-house solution if Timmons asks for a lot of $ for his next contract

Okay, for fun let's say there was a Steeler Nation try out for those that are still physical capable. You receive an offer letter and get whatever free agents get for a singing bonus these days which is about $5,000

Qualifications are thus. You have to have played at least on the high school level.

List the positon that you played, height and weight, and your best 40 yard dash time. *Wonderlic scores are optional! * :) 38

Coach - Played TE, OT, OLB, and S in high School for three years. 6'1" 1/2 tall, weight now...er back then was 210 pounds.. Best 40 was 4.89. I'd be the odds on favorite to see the camp Turk first.

On another note Spence was kept around long enough to see how he would recover when many thought he would not. This seasons training camp should show if he is continuing to get better or not and the steelers could replace him depending on where he falls on the depth chart.

It will be interesting to see the strong side pass rush with Dupree lining up behind ironhead2. No tightend or fullback should be able to be able to block Dupree alone so ironhead2 should see no double teaming. Long live the bull rush!!! Gooooo steelers! Can't wait.

I don't see any way they kept him around all those years and let him go after one year of actually playing.

I'm not sure if 'demoted' in favor of Williams is, quite, the right way to explain what happened with him last year, either, unless I have misunderstood something. Isn't he a Mack LB? They didn't bring in Williams to play Mack, they brought him in for Buck and Timmons played Mack. I'm not sure how much that happened, though, I would expect Timmons experience over Spence's was more important in certain situations.

HS 6'3" 4.65 40 195lb Olb/DE NoseGaurd and Center LS
College 220lb DE/TE LS
Semi Pro 265lb All line positions Long Snapper
Now 6'2" 190lb Ultimate Frisbee

I regret playing Semi Pro thanks to shoulder issues.

I think Warren would be shaking in his boots!

I only think he would get replaced if he got to a point that in the mind of the steelers staff that he will not get any better and that they have better players than him that would move him off the roster. For example, they are going to keep 4 inside line backers and 6 outside linebackers and he becomes number 5 inside and number 7 outside. At that point he would just be beat out for the position.
