  • Only one team that has played 4 games has fewer points against. That would be Buffalo with 54 points against. The Steelers have 59 points against.

  • The Steelers are 2nd in the NFL with 15 sacks. Only Jacksonville has more with 18 sacks.

  • The Steelers are tied for 4th in the NFL in passes defended, with 21

  • The Steelers are 2nd overall in pass defense, surrendering only 154 yards through the air.

As I said in one thread I will not apologize for the competition faced.

But at the same time, there is work to be done, and will need to see how that tests out against the more prolific offenses on the schedule.

I think Hilton and Haden are huge upgrades.

Add Watt and Tuitt and the defense is as formidable as we've seen in years. I'm liking it.

Once they get the offensive stuff worked out, which I fully expect in mid-October into November I think this will be a team to be reckoned with. If they can just manage to secure some homefield. However it's looking like Denver and KC are determined to make that a fight to the finish this year. Course it's still early.

Right now our defensive numbers mean squat. We have played 3 really bad teams and an off an on viking team. Jax kinda scares me, but we won't get tested till KC. The D has done pretty much what it was supposed top so far.

Just look at the D from last year compared to now.
Haden instead of Cockrell.
Davis year 2
Burns year 2
Hilton instead of Gay
Watt instead of Jarvis
Dupree instead of Moats
Heyward and Tuitt played very little together last season.
Hargrave year 2.
That's pretty much 8 of the 11 positions that should be an upgrade

Coach I love the numbers they look nice at this point! If they continue on that track, especially pressuring the QB, we might finally be looking at the defense truly revamped. Wig I agree fully, front 7 is better than last year with the addition of Watt and a healthy Heyward. Man did he reset the line of scrimmage 2 yards back into BAL territory or what?!?! And Slash I’m glad that the trip to Detroit, hosting GB and the Pats is later in the season so the defense can really come together and the offense will continue to get continuity amongst a group that really doesn’t have extensive time all together on the field. That last comment also plays into the latter part of Wig’s comment too. The team can’t look past Jacksonville, but Oct 15 in Arrowhead looms as a large test of where this team is at! Exciting!!

Jags have shown signs of life. Sure they aren't KC, Pats, or GB. But I think you will find they will test the D and O.

But the whole package is exciting to see how far they have come and how fare they possibly can go.

Jordan Howard more yards rushing and recieving against the Steelers Defense than his other 3 games combined. COMBINED.

Ben I agree that performance was unsettling to me as well. To see the ball jammed down your throat in that manner was borderline disgraceful. With the distraction of the prior events that day aside, no Tuitt and no Watt. The edge was never set that afternoon and gap assignments were a failure. I think the loss of those two, they play right and left side really really hurt the defense in the Windy City. But to your point I do agree buddy what they put on tape was unsettling and that honestly is probably putting it mild [emoji16]

Yeah, but we are straddled with the dumbest coach in the league, so......

Great analogy and very true. Our defense has much less game experience than last year but that youth is playing way better ball than last year too!!!! Youth was needed and this "D" has potential as the youth get more experience even if just as the games progress on the schedule they are getting better and better. Will they be a whole lot better in three years,...YES but the are drastically improve ing per each game now. I'll take it as opposed to last year it seemed like they were just existing....

Nothing about how slow or small our player are? Head size?

Well, it would be a captain obvious type of statement to say their head's are bigger than yours.

Figuratively speaking I think AB has the biggest head, but I could be wrong.

I don't care about the competition. Recently, the Steelers made a habit of making QBs like that look like superstars. The biggest concern right now is the run defense getting gashed for huge gains.

I think as long as Tuitt and Watt stay healthy that concern for me at least decreases about 50%. Also would percentage figure in for the better if MItchell is back VS Wilcox.

Contraire my good fellow, we've played less thaN STELLER, except Joeseph, and none of them including Joeseph have looked stellar in the passing game. You may be referring to seasons past but realize this is NOW and this is the season that counts..!!!!
