So much for getting a sixth receiver via a IR spot

Everyone with the exception of Davis was a full go including Chick (Chest), Ola (knee surgery), Layne (Groin). At least for now they would have to cut to make room for Holton.

they could cut Ben

Hell yea.! He is always causing problems and now it's even reache as far a s Oakland.

We will be fine even if Holton isn't on active roster...........and that will be because of BEN.

Salute the nation

Honestly, I'd cut Gentry yesterday. No one is picking him up. Eli already got a visit, and Spencer got rostered...

It's a good problem to have but I know some were figuring it was a move to protect the roster and someone was getting the IR assignment.

That's what it seemed like initially, but it's a good thing Holton made it to the PS. They can call him up anytime if a WR goes down.

Yes, but if it's a short term injury they will have to cut someone to bring him to the 53. Here is where they are at. They have more linebackers than they will dress on gameday. Skipper, Gilbert or both won't dress on gameday. Every receiver will have to dress. If not for 5 wide, in case of injury. If one gets dinged and cannot play the next week, someone will have to be cut to bring Holton off the PS.
I would assume the gameday inactives will be Dobbs, Skipper, Gilbert III, Fred Johnson, Banner, Layne, If they aren't big on two TE sets or think they can fill one with Samuel's in a pinch then one of those six gets a hat and Gentry sits.

Not worried about Holton at all...like it has been said - this is a good problem to have.

Just need to hope Davis can come back sooner rather than later - this schedule ain't a cake walk...

I don't think Jalen Samuels has or will ever take a snap from the TE position in a Steelers uniform.

I agree. No idea why Gentry was kept. We need a better receiver and one of the backup tackles are better blockers. Heck, they might be better receivers, too.

They really need to go trade for or sign a TE and practice squad Gentry if they want to keep him around.

I heard on NFL radio yesterday a bit about how cap hits work that may be relevant. If a guy is signed this week, his entire salary goes against the cap for the year even if he is cut later. If a guy is signed next week, only the weeks he is paid (i.e., on team) hit the cap. So, a guy signed next week and cut 4 weeks later only has 4 weeks of his monies go against the cap. Seems wonky to me, but that is what they said. If true, it is possible the team will make a move for someone after week one.

Actually, I thought Gentry did ok in the PS. He wasn't an all-pro but I thought he made plays, certainly in the receiving game.

I'm not convinced he's an easy drop. He may improve quite a bit over a year or two. He CAN catch and you can't coach size. If he learns to block better, he could be useful.
