All the talk is about how this secondary will deal with Brady, Gronk, and the WRs.
Not one mention of our Dline. I'm no coach or expert, but how can everyone ignore the Dline. I mean am I the only one that sees this 2DL set as the biggest problem with this defense?
All the top defenses use actual Dlinenmen on passing downs, you have to collapse the middle of the pocket right into Brady's lap. We use 2 DLINEMEN and that's so easy for teams to put 3 guys on our 2DL, then we have 2 light LBs trying to beat 310 lb tackles, who aren't going to get bull rushed so QBs know they'll have to try a speed outside rush, the QB just steps up into a clean pocket. We get no push and with 2DL then that means we probably have 2 ILBs on the field, so no push equals more time those ILBs are left in space.

That's our biggest schematical issue with this defense, not using 3 Dlinenmen at all times. Yeah McCullers isn't that good, but you tell him, don't worry about keys or reads, you push that guy in front you as far back as you can, that's your job.
Dress Cam, Tuitt, Hargrave, AluAlu, Big Dan, and Walton and you rotate them all game. Then you don't need both slow *** ILBs on the field.

If you see us going 2DL all the time Sunday, we better hope our offense gets 35 points.

Sorry had to rant it drives me insane watching that D over and over again and not one damn sports person in town brings up the 2 Dlinemen debacle.

Spot on Coryea, that 2DL **** needs to be totally gone. Pressure, even just a little, and put a hit on t*mmy b*y as he can't take it and will cause happy feet. What we've been doing "OBVIOUSLY" nhasn't worked so why not something else............ As for the talking heads.... they don't know **** and just regurgitate what's being said.

No, there too busy defending Tomlin. I don't know if you're listening to 93.7 The Fan. If you are can you believe the crap coming out of Ed Bouchette's mouth. When asked if Tomlin's seat becomes hot if they miss the playoffs, Easy Ed says "I suppose it will get warm". This guy is amazing! One of the biggest Tomlin apologists in Pittsburgh. A little warm, are you kidding me! Next season would be make the playoffs and win some games in the playoffs or we're moving in another direction. What I fear most is Rooney extending this guy again.

Yeah, your correct with the 2-D-Linemen. That hasn't worked and yet we keep repeating the same crap. Hell no it won't work against Belicheck and Brady. We all know Gronk will be fed the ball continuously with a LB'er chasing him, and Eldlemen killing them with short intermediate routes. And absolutely zero pressure on Brady. The script has been cast and just hope they don't hang too many points on us. Another fact, we only have 6 int's all season. Terrible!

Douchette is one of the worst journalist in the Burgh. He is more concerned with being everyone's favorite guy then he is with being an objective journalist. Then again that describes 2/3 of Pittsburgh journalists. Anyone that defends Tomlin after his clock management and handling of Roethlisberger on Sunday has no business being a journalist.

The only way Tomlin's seat gets hot is if the grid shorts out in his car. As I said in another thread, if a clear cut case of sexual harassment were posted on the Jumbo-Tron he might be in trouble. Maybe in the post-Kavanaugh era all you need is an accusation.

So Ron Cook another one drinking far too much Steeler Cool Aid suggests that Rooney hire someone to manage the clock management and to be in charge of challenges. What? It continues to amaze me that all these concessions are being suggested to further fix Tomlin’s inadequate coaching. These are direct HC responsibilities, am I correct?

My question is, if you as an owner HAVE to hire a person in that role instead of a coach that sees he NEEDS to hire someone in that role speaks volumes to the competency of the coach.

The only thing we can hope for is that they bring the house on Marsha. Hit him hard.
And let Munch handle time outs, and challenges. Hell, maybe let him run the defense at this point.

Exactly what does Tomlin do or what is he responsible for? When the offense isn't working it's always Bens fault, then the OC, if the defense isn't good it's Lebeaus fault, now it's Butlers fault, even though Tomlin was a DB coach and D coordinator. So I guess his job is press conferences

Maybe we need to add a few more mirrors instead. Apparently the smoke made no difference vs. the Raiders.

I just think by further making excuses, firing coordinators, hiring someone to run the clock management and challenges further masks the incompetence of the head coach. My question is why? Because we hold onto our coaches forever there is absolutely no accountability for the head coach and that’s bad business imo.

They hired a stupid young bullshitter with a thin resume and they further neutered him by demanding he keep the incumbent coordinators
After a few years Rooney fired the OC and hired the OC not the young incompetent head coach. They knew he was a lightweight and a figurehead and even 11 years into his tenure he is nothing but a yes man and bullshitter who has no clue on how to do his job. He lies and reflects at his press conferences and is simply a bad coach who.needs to be gone. If not wait to look into the abyss when Ben retires. The 3rd quarter with Dobbs is our future . the flow of the game so to speak.

On defense you need to be able to rush the passer or cover the receivers.

With our 2 DL defense we can do neither and are easy to run on.

The guy that will cause problems imo is Cordelle Patterson. The Steelers won’t have an answer for him when he shoots out of the backfield

The Giants showed everyone how to beat them and we showed how to beat them a few years back. Press man coverage and pressure up the middle. It WORKS.*bwady gets his panties in a bunch and makes mistakes. He hates pressure up the middle. Put one man back deep and bring the house. Live by the blitz, die by the blitz. I'd rather die that way than by 1000000 paper cuts.

Usually when people are finding fault with everyone around you except you... you're part of the problem as well. There is a common theme in all this. Changing OC, DC, LBs coach etc... Sometimes the guy in charge is really in charge and should be treated as such.

I understand they don't want to fire him. They didn't fire Cowher and they didn't fire Noll. They'll do everything they can not to fire Tomlin.

Yeah, it sure as Hell appears that way. Out of 32 teams we have to be the one where the coach is insulated and immune to being held accountable for coaching ineptness thus keeps his job.
Who does this stuff other than Rooney?

If Baltimore loses out - very possible if they find a way to lost to the Bucs, and we lose out - obviously possible, and Cleveland wins out against the donkeys, bungholes, and mavens - very possible, then Cleveland wins the AFCN. Now that should start some discussions about the importance of coaching and where the Steelers stand in that discussion.

Well at least we can say we beat them once and tied them also............................................ While we beat our chests

Here is the deal. The *'s have scored 27+ in 7 of their games this year and did it 9 times last year. The other games, under 27, this year were 25, 20 and 10 twice.

Presumably, all of the other teams are trying different defenses against the *'s and, it just doesn't "work" the majority of the time. We all know why.

Seems like the best D we ever played against them (similar to what BLT was doing to KC near the end of the game) is when we had 9-10 guys at the LoS with 1-2 back a bit. Most of them were standing so that Marsha couldn't, really, tell who was going to be in coverage or not. I figure, if you are going to get burned in coverage when you only rush 3 or 4 (and we will), might as well rush 5-6 every time and get a few hits on the QB.

Whether someone stops Gronk from getting 3-4TD's is irrelevant if Joe Blow RB is getting 3-4 TD's instead.

Go into the game expecting that the *'s are going to score 27-33 points. Hold them to that and your D has done an OK job. If your offense cannot score 27+ against the *'s, you ain't gonna win no matter what your D does.

Belichek is a good coach. He has a guy (Adams) to help him. This is not a bad idea.

Has anybody thrown Belicose Bill under the bus for having gronk back in coverage as a safety on the final play of the loss to Miami?

Why are you getting on Ed? He's not wrong.

What I don't get about the defense is not just that you're putting two DL on the field, but you are keeping your weakest positional group on the field. Good coaches will adjust their scheme to fit their personnel. The Steelers have three very talented defensive linemen and good depth. You can adjust your defensive package and put Watt, Dupree, or Chickillo on the end. Instead, they leave their group of journeymen ILBs on the field and take their more talented players off it.
