We were looking to add a body to the DL that was willing to take the minimum. That's all this is. If he makes the team and provides some useful snaps, it's a good move.

Special teams move and he will compete for playing time. I bet the deal is less than what he made last year so not a bad move but not a game changer. Just a nice depth move that allows the FO to not have too many holes in the draft to fill. Right now I see SS, CB, DT, ILB, and OT as the only holes that need filling. And not starters for most. Probably a camp battle at CB, SS and DT but the rest are just depth.

We signed bodies for OT and ILB. I see more of a need at OLB, unless you think some magical process is going to make JJ decent. I don't see it. Oh, wait, Cool Shades said JJ was "playing solid." I forgot.

........probably my least favorite signing, the other two DE visits IMO showed more as a player than this guy did.

Maybe a rookie beats him out............

Other players may be better, but not as cheap. Rooneys like cheap.

I feel like the people posting negative **** in this thread haven't read the articles about this guy posted in the thread. Seems like a good signing. For whatever its worth Cam and Tuitt play most snaps anyway. If this guy can spell them and be decent it will be an upgrade.

I actually assumed he was a ham and egger myself....until I read the article. The guy brings some disruption, which is more than you could ever say about other back ups we had. Like I said: Bottom line, does the move makes us better or worse? I say better.

Those glowing reports about him come from before the 2015 season.

What happened in 2015? He started 7 games (off and on through the season, starting the last 4) and got 1 sack and 22 combined tackles with no forced fumbles.

And who did the sack come against? Why the Steelers, of course... Maybe that's why they signed him. There is a trend.

300lbs and looks like he can move. Pretty good signing I think

One of the trends that plague the Steelers is some players reporting to camp out of shape. Not everyone is a James Harrison or Antonio Brown who are dedicated to their game and it shows on field. The Steelers have a nack for getting good players with questionable work ethics at times. Casey Hampton(late career) and Lamarr Woodley come to mind. If those guys took their fitness a tad bit more serious. Wood would still be in tandem with James Harrison

He will work into the rotation. Leaves us options on draft day. Looks like CB and Safety will be draft priorities, with ILB's kinda secondary in terms of immediate importance.

He started the final four games with zero talent around him.

For those who like PFF, he is the lowest rated DL on their FA tracker...

.4 behind Crawford.15.8 behind Cam Thomas...

Awesome. Glad to see the FO is working hard to improve the defense.

Meh.

I'd still prefer they concentrated on the secondary.

I hope he does well. If he can bring some energy out there, that would be great. Add in a few sacks as a backup and I will be real happy.

Past performance is not indicative of future success.

Need proof? In 2013, Cortez was one of the highest rated CB's on PFF with a +9.8 grade. But who here would commend the FO for locking down such a 'highly regarded' talent?

I just don't see a lot of studs that fit OLB in this draft. I feel Anthony Chickillo would look like a 4th round pick in this draft all day long. Maybe if we can snag a Victor Ochi or something in round 6th but I feel the lack of quality will push those tweener OLB/DE up draft boards. I would rather take Carl Nassib in round two and hope we can get some pressure from Moats, Harrison, and JJ from one side and hope Dupree takes a step forward and becomes that 8+ sack OLB on the other side than to reach on a Leonard Floyd with his 4.5 sacks last year or a Kamalei Correa in the first. I look at where some of these crappy edge rushers are expected to go and I shake my head. They seem to either have the athleticism or the production. Not both. I mean Dupree was knocked last year for his lack of production and he had 9.5 sacks and 15 TFL. This year he'd be a top 10 pick with those stats and his workout numbers.

I guess what I am getting at value at edge rushers this year isn't there.
