Should there be a statue of Ben and "the tackle?"

OK, not advocating putting a statue up of Ben while he is still playing.

But, do you think a statue would be appropriate of Ben making this tackle?

I have mixed feelings. As anyone who has been through Pgh International knows, there is a "likeness" of Franco making the "Immaculate Reception" at the top of the escalators. I love it and crack up everytime I see it.

I think Ben's tackle saved that season and we won a ring.

One could argue, however, that Ben's greatness is in throwing the ball, so a statue of a tackle would demean his true value.

On the other hand, it was one of the most fantastic plays in franchise history.

So, I don't know.

Just something to ponder.

Of course there should be a statue of it.

They should erect immediately next to the statue the NFL exec issuing the press release apologizing to the Steelers for screwing up the call on the Polamalu interception. If I remember correctly...isn't this statue next to the statue of Joey Porter calling all the refs cheaters?

No.

The Santonio touchdown or the Harrison interception are both more iconic plays, but besides that, if Joe Greene doesn't have a statue, we don't need one of Ben either. If they did build one, he deserves something better than making a tackle.

We don't win that game without him making that play. Jerome should pay for the statue

Perhaps a statue of the returners wife putting a knife in his thigh or whatever happened earlier that week.

Watching the video I got the same sick feeling in my gut when that ball came out as I did when it actually happened.

Nothing says that tackle or lack there of made it happen. It was a great play at the time. Who is to say the boys from the burgh don't punch it in the end zone before time expires in that game if the dolts would have scored? Remember the Heidi game, I know some of you will need to look it up.

The statues of Pirate greats around PNC Park is awesome. Maz is there rounding the bases after winning the WS in 60.

I like the idea of great moments in Steeler lore forever remembered by iconic statues.

Love to see Troy pointing up at his son right after he scored the TD to secure our SB berth,

Oh the stories we could tell...........

Due to our "STRORIED" franchise it would be hard to know when to stop the manufacturing of statues. Rooney's need to start buying property, love it !!!!!!

Salute the nation

Simple, no. The big difference between the immaculate reception and Ben's tackle is the immaculate reception was the launch to Pittsburgh becoming a dynasty, and one of the most consistent, respected teams in the NFL...a reputation that continues to today. Ben's tackle was great but the impact was only on that season.

Not now on the statue, but that clip will be shown during a football life, 30 for 30, or in the hall itself.

We'll just stay with Art, we don't want to end up with something like this. Embarrassing.

Here is why you are wrong: Both Harrison and Harrison plays happened AFTER we won a RECENT SB. It had been 25 years since we won a ring, before Ben made that game-saving tackle. Had he not, we'd be looking at no SB possibility. Yes, Holmes and Harrison plays were amazing and won us our 6th ring, but Ben's play got us off the snide ending a 25 year old SB drought.

I understand your point, but many feel the IR was just pure dumb luck. One of the Raiders' LBs said if Franco wasn't being lazy, jogging down the field, aimlessly, the play would have never happened.

I would say without this one play, we do not play in a superbowl. As such you can argue it a top 25 all time play in franchise history.

Why can't the city of Pittsburgh issue a Sportss park with statues of great plays in Pittsburgh's history?

I'll just agree to disagree. Ben's tackle will always be one of the greats, but nothing to immortalize.

As someone pointed out, we have so many greats, maybe a "monument park" like they have at Yankee Stadium. They could have a plaque for every great player in a section inside or outside of Heinz Field and it wouldn't be anything tacky like the Lewis statue.

Damn, I remember that now. Holy **** that's memory lane lol. Thank you Mrs. Stabby

"Many" say the IR was pure dumb luck? You're the first I've heard to say it....that's because it being a lucky play goes without saying.

Of course it was luck, it wasn't in the playbook.

It was luck, it was magical, it was immaculate.
