By: CJ Lester SteelerNation.com * Should the Pittsburgh Steelers bring back Mark Barron? The hybrid safety/linebacker was released earlier this off-season as a cap casualty. The biggest issue that a lot of Steeler fans had with Barron was that he did not perform up to the standards of the contract he was given last off-season. […]

He sucked last year. Why should we bring him back?

As I snoop into this thread I simply think the red Barron is no more Charlie Brown.

He sucked at times but was getting better. For me it totally depends on the development of our young guys. My hope is we don’t need him. But if we do we could do worse than him.

NOTHING before training camp. Have a phone call into him telling him to be prepared for "just in case"

he wasn't nearly as bad as the echo chamber here would have you believe. No, i am not claiming he was great nor advocating his return. I watched his tape a bit during the season. He didn't add much in the run game for sure, but he was adequate in pass coverage. He did bridge a gap in LB pass coverage that was needed until Bush learned the NFL level reads and coverage. At best, the guy is a backup in this defense and perhaps at this point a better backup option that what we have in the tank right now. But, like DIC said....lets see how things unfold before we pull the trigger on a cap hit for depth we may not need and may still be available at the end of camp.

Yeap, completely agree. For the correct kind of money he would be good depth but got to give the young guys a shot first

If he was cut for not performing up to his contract then they could probably find a FA who is better.

At this point the pickings are slim.

Fully agree meaning he hasn't been picked up yet VS his ability or to high of $$$$KaChing$$$$ price.

him at 6,5M versus him at 3M makes a big difference

At 6.5m I keep the rookies and ride with them but at 3m, after training camp (which I'm hoping proves we don't need him), Then maybe take a look.

As a rule, I don't think players are generally cut and then come back for team friendly deals. If he is good enough to play in Pittsburgh even as depth, he is good enough to crack several rosters on teams that did not cut him.

It happens here and there. Some money is better than no money. The agent and or player overvalues worth and tries to sign for less just to have the opportunity to still play. Probably a lot of one year deals on the table in that case. A lot moving on but some still want to get a paycheck so if the cutting team is the only option..
