By this time every football team should have an identity. On offense, ours is short passing, like it or not. If that is the case, I think Samuels should play more. He's our best pass-catching back, he has better speed than either Conner or Snell, and he has some moves with the ball in his hands.

While Conner is a better runner, with our Offensive line how much does that matter? Teams know where Conner is running the ball anyway. In between the tackles or when he tries to get outside sideways. Samules is fast enough to make the defense respect the outside run. We pass it so often; having the best pass-catching back in their makes sense.

We havent seen smallwood.

We have seen Jaylen. I cant help but remember the game he had vs. the Pats* what, a year or 2 ago. He has the abilities.

But were just armchair coaches. There are 3 or 4 coaches getting paid to evaluate and determine who gets to play .

We aren't running the ball well at all and you're looking for a reason or an answer.

I'd rather see Samuels over Snell and McFarland right now. Conner is easily the best of the bunch though, we miss him.

Samuels was a very good backup to Conner when he was injured and sometimes looked better. He needed to lose a few pounds and did but was then supplanted by Snell last year. I'd give him a try. No one else can do what he does out of the backfield. McFarland can but every time he is in there, he shows he's not ready for this stage. Maybe next year for him.

No matter how we look at it, we are drafting a RB in the 1st 2 rounds next year and the other 2 players in the 1st three rounds should include at least 1 O-lineman mauler.

That's part of the problem The 3 or 4 coaches. Like you said we aren't running the ball, might as well go with the best pass catcher, and the one with best speed.

Mcfarland should be phased out the rest of the year, he doesn't have the vision right now. His foot work is really bad too, takes tiny choppy steps which basically has him running in place.

Snell is what he is, he's average. He runs hard but isn't the answer. Samuels isn't the answer either but might as well give him a shot.

Connor needs to stay on the field or we have no shot at any kind of run game.

I'm with you on McFarland. He needs to learn the playbook and find his rhythm. Samuels deserves the snaps Snell is getting. IMO he fits the offense we are running best. Give him a try. What is he in Tomlin's dog hours or something?

Sorry for the formatting...but this guy is a proven NFL caliper back...which we need desperately.
He aint the second coming of Alvin Kamara but he is very capable to do what we need a back to do in this offense.
He's a good pass catcher and has playoff/super bowl experience.
I cant understand why he isnt given an opportunity?

I still don’t get why JaySam wasn’t the back on that 4th & 1. He’s the best pass catcher we have out of the backs. The play worked. Slow LB on a RB and Roethlisberger threw it to an open spot. McFarland (cough*bust*cough) just got flat footed and didn’t adjust to the ball.

I dont think the coaching staff thought for a second that Ben was going to go to that side of the field with the pass...

I think Macfarlane could of just been anybody over there...the play was supposed to go to the side with the bunched group of receivers..

According to Tomlin he was the primary target. It makes sense from the formation and the match up. Huge advantage goes to the RB with a LB on him and he had the whole side of the field to himself.

Tomlin said post game that play was for McFarland.

JaySam just hasn't made the most of his opportunities

Samuels was getting a lot of snaps Monday in 5 wide sets. In 5 wide, I'd rather see Ray Ray than a back.

Samuels should probably be used more on insane pass plays like that 4th down pass... but if you are saying that he should replace conner.... ummm no???

McFarland needs more time to develop so the game slows down for him. His eyes are moving faster than his feet. He also needs to develop patience for allowing the blocking to setup. Against the WFT- he had shown flashes of this ability. I don’t think he’s a bad player at all. I’d rather see Derek Watt used more than Samuels. Sounds silly- but he did play the role of a 3rd TE as well as a swing FB for the Chargers. He has good hands out of the backfield. He’s also had a few snaps as the half back and did the job with The Chargers.
