"An anonymous Steelers coach shared his thoughts on Will Howard’s performance in training camp so far."

“I’ve never seen a quarterback this special, he’s going to be the next Big Ben.”

Anyone thinks this is legit?

Wishful thinking on the part of those hoping it turns out to be true.

I also hope this turns out to be true, I am just going to wait and see though.

If it was up to me he would be escalated to #2 just based on the fact you know what you have in Rudolph and Thompson already, as far as im concerned, which is not a franchise QB in either case. If the season starts to pan out like i think it will Im hoping they'll give him a sufficient chance to prove himself before the season ends and solve one question about the 2026 draft before it even starts.

Pittsburgh Steelers coach or East Milfin U13 Steelers coach?

Yep, Just like Haskins and Fields... gonna revolutionize the game... 🤣

Seriously though he is a good prospect, but thats it...
he isnt a first round type guy we magically got in the sixth... he has flaws that need worked out.

I heard several sports guys talk about how the fans may have a bit to much hype for the kid... one was saying at camp he would throw a simple checkdown and they'd be applauding and cheering like he threaded the needle on a 25 yard pass...

Right now him winning QB3 is the goal... he probably is t gonna be the super secret starter of the future, but it would be cool if he was.
People are probably gonna be disappointed when we draft a qb high next year and he gets leapfrogged right off the bat..

I dont think all these fake stories overhyping him do him any favors

Given who has been under center for the Steelers since Ben has retired, it wouldn't take much effort to look "special."
When I was growing up, the "special" kids wore their football helmets ALL the time.

That’s putting a pretty big target on the poor kid, but one thing is for sure…………………. It’s the right direction to be compared to.

I think he is more secure than most give him credit for. I just hope the coaching staff doesn’t **** him up beyond repair.

Salute the nation

Well Gruden called him Josh Allen

Not saying he’s right, but I’d say Gruden’s eye for offensive ability probably outweighs the entire depth of offensive knowledge on our entire coaching staff…so maybe just maybe we have something in this prospect.

The great part is even if this is just a bunch of click bait crap over hyping the kid it’s not like the pick cost them any real capital. The next two picks they took were basically just drafting for potential PS competition, so if he even turns out to be a serviceable QB3 or QB2 there is great value in that late round pick. Crap QBs are frequently making 3-5M per year in the league these days (more than his entire contract).

It is pretty awesome that they were able to draft Cam Heyward in the first, Najee with better vision in the 3rd, TJ in the 4th, Casey in the 5th and Roethlisberger in the 6th tho…that’s impressive!

I’ve seen these comps out there and it absolutely cracks me up, these way too early player comps usually are way off base…or maybe we just drafted 5 first rounders!!! The roster certainly needed a talent boost.

Howard has a long way to go to be a starter in the league. However, he was a great get in the draft. I do think he has a good shot to be a starter in the NFL. It's too early to say what he will do but I like most of what I've seen from him on and off the field. Dude is a leader and a winner.

now they post over in R&P under the usernames Tibs and Troglodyte.

with the picks we have in next year's draft, it would be incredibly beneficial to us if Howard was able to be the QB1 next season. Then we could surround him with talent upgrades. If he doesnt show he can be the QB1, we'll likely try to package a **** ton of picks to move up for one of the top QBs. Which, IMO, would hinder us going forward.

I remember watching Gruden’s take, thinking this is pretty cool. Then I watched the beginning of another prospect on his show…then another. He gives the same Rah,Rah BS about anyone he puts on the show. I mean,I don’t blame him. Who’s going to go on his show if all he does is criticize the person? In this day and age everything has to be taken with a grain of salt. Objectively it seems is no longer a thing.
Let’s hope our 3rd string,6th round pick doesn’t read all the hype that is being spewed, and continues to work hard fine tuning and learning the game. And if that talent is truly there….let’s hope we have someone that recognizes and game plans for his strengths.

So this anonymous coach thinks Will Howard is more special than Aaron Rodgers?

I'm a Howard guy as much as anybody, but determining that Will is the next Big Ben after just a week into his first training camp may be a bit premature. Even if it is from an actual coach, which is probably unlikely.

Mostly I agree with you... he absolutely was worth a gamble in the sixth, but its absurd to compare him to Ben or Josh Allen...as least before he has thrown one preseason pass...

As for Gruden, yeah the dude was phenomenal at getting pro bowl performances out of retread veteran QBs... but I cant seem to recall one qb he drafted and developed...
I do know in 2017he talked up Mitch Trubisky a lot like he did Will Howard... enough that the dudes stock rose from potential mid round pick to 2OA as the rating process progressed.... so maybe he doesnt know everything about QBs after all
