Completely random question but anyone knowledgeable when it comes to the cap know where we will roughly stand next year? I assume Worilds, Troy, & Ike will come off the books. Also I assume Woodley will not count anymore as well. Looks like we may see an increase as well from TV deals.

Need TMC back. He knew quit a bit about that crap...

The best salary cap guy has left, but it seems that you are correct. The only possible for dead money would be Woodley as I do not know if we were stuck for any more years of signing bonus.
We should be in a good position as the cap is expected to move up a good bit next year. It is unsure how much it changes with dead money depending on what happens to contracts just extended and the players as well as Ben's contract situation and if he decides to try free agency.

Not saying that any of this is likely only that it is something that is possible.

1 Ben is signed to an extension and hits a ton of upfront money further handicapping the team

2 Ben is signed to an extension that is cap friendly and helps the team

3 Ben is signed to a deal that is neither helpful or hurtful to the team

4 Ben decides to finish the contract out and enter free agency

5 if 4 above the steelers trade Ben to another team so they can get value for him and another team sees him as a viable option for them for a championship run.

6 if 4 above Ben won't come to terms and leaves after one year with new team to sign in with his friend the bruce in az a great place to retire and that will be what Ben does when his next contract is up.

Lots of stuff up in the air for next year.

Take a look at the website - overthecap.com. It will at least give you an idea about how much we (over)pay for each player.

Here you go:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/cap/2015/

We have $133 million in cap dollars (before any renegotiations or releases) for 37 players.

PFT is projecting as high as $145 million as a potential 2015 salary cap figure, but we won't know that until close to March.

Also note we are currently $2.5 million under the cap right now that will get rolled over into 2015 as well.

Troy will have a lot of dead money left on the cap next year, we stupidly extended him this year pushing money into the future which is Omar Kahn's weakness, oh and giving **** like Allen and Gilbert huge contracts not commiserate with their awful play.

Ideally Troy would retire, we don't resign Worlids. I would like to sign a FA OLB...give tons of money to Justin Houston from KC. Maybe try to sign Michael Roos to play LT. He knows Munchak's sytem well and is a lot better than what we have now. I would sign an OLB in FA, draft a corner in rd 1, and a TE in rd 2. I would also conside signing a guy like Dustin Keller who can catch passes. Palmer and Spaeth stink.

worilds is already not on the book next year since is a free agent and tag is only for this year , woodley still count more than 5 milion on dead money next year

Woodley is counting $5 million this year and $8 MILLION next year.

Thanks del, welcome back. So supossing that the cap will be $145 Million, we would be at 131,5 million and about 13 millions under. I hope they go after a good FA at either LT, CB or OLB with that money.

Cap situation all depends on if our GM and coach are still here. If they are I fully expect Tombert to break the bank on Worilds because Worilds will blow it up for a month in December and we will oblige his hard work for 4 games by signing to a redunkulous contract. We will then extend at least one more worthless player and then round off the offseason with a crappy free agent that won't contribute and a slew of draft picks who will never develope.

Or we fire the Coaches and GM and have a shot.

If we shitcan the coaches and GM, can they be forced to take the ****** up cap and players with them?

Remember that's only 37 players.

The money left ($15 million) has to pay for 16 new contract players to get to a 53 man roster + extra money for injuries.

I suspect we will be doing the same MO of restructures and extensions to try and get some more room. And we may let mid-level contract go (Cam Thomas??) and hope to replace with other mid-to-low level contracts or rookies.

There's room for some free agents, but it's a lot like what we've seen: mid-level guys that fill in holes before the draft.

I think we really could save a ton of money and help our production with just a few moves(according to overthecap):

Cut McClendon cost 558,334 while saving 2.25 mil.........McCullers steps in here
Cut Cam Thomas cost us 500k while saving 2 mil...........Tuitt steps in
Cut Lance Moore cost us 322,500 while saving 1.5 mil........anyone steps in Brown is making 420k this season
Cut Gay cost us 166,668 while saving 1.5 mil.........Will have to spend money here CB is a spot that needs it

Resign Heyward to a long term deal changing his cap number next season from 6.9 mil to maybe something like 2 mil with money pushed out in years.
Extend Ben changing his cap number from 18.8 mil to something that can help the cap the next year or two use a nice signing bonus to be spread out thru the contract.
Troy and Heath have big numbers I feel we can keep one and let one go and I think it may be Troy... :-(

I am not a cap guy I am just looking at this website and seeing where we can make cut imo without totally having to replace half the team. According to this site our top 51 will count like 137.5 mil and the cap being projected at around 145 mil with the savings above we could have 10 mil to play with to fill some holes while having 4-5 mil left for the draft class. Also I am sure Bell will be looking for a raise as well.......thoughts?

I would think we need to keep William Gay on the team, it is unlikely that we get a big upgrade over him at his price and very easily could be a player for the same money and not as good. I suspect that next year we do not have heath or troy and are likely looking at players not as good as they were in their younger days.

I'm not sure how they come up with those numbers. I don't see us keeping 51 of our 53 if they were playing for the minimum age catches up to all of them eventually. Guys we may not keep, heath, troy, Ike, Worilds, Keisel, Harrison, Thomas, McClendon, I would like to add Jones to that list as well so there are lots of guys that might not be on the 53 and that leaves a lot less than 51.

Jones won't be going anywhere after just his second season - especially since he was hurt this season. That won't come close to happening.

I assume that was a type, Wingman.

Jarvis Jones will only make close to $2.2mln for the next two years. No way they are looking to cut him.
