I was just looking through the Steelers salary cap figures at Over The Cap and was stunned to see that Anthony Chickillo is scheduled to cost us $6M against the cap next year. He has a $4.5M base salary next year.

He is 18th on the team with 5 tackles. He has 0.5 a sack. What exactly is the front office thinking? Or is his contract in reality a 1 year deal spread with the cap hit spread over two years and he's an easy cut on June 1st...?

I am sure they will do something with his cap hit. Restructure, cut, something.

He got a 2 year deal prior to this season for an average of $5 million per so that sounds about right. Hopefully we can cut him and save the $6 million. Although, if they don't sign Dupree, Chicklets could stay and even be our starter next year. Now, that **** would be scary.

Shows how much they though of and trusted Dupree to produce prior to this season.

His contract was set up exactly that way as a contingency plan for 2020, it's him OR Dupree next year but definitely not both. Likely trans tag Dupree and cut Chik

Also I seem to remember the Pats sniffing around him last offseason, likely paid a bit more than street value to send them packing

They back-loaded it so they could cut him if need be.
I think the need be is going to happen.

I also believe he is a locker room favorite, works hard helping younger guys etc.

We should've let the Patriots sign him....not even Bellicheck can polish that turd.

I thought he was a future hall of famer and gave us a hometown discount

****. LT was a certified freakin' Bad ***. Not sayin' he was the best ever, but there will never be another like him.

yes, I know you were being sarcastic.
Taylor if he wasn't the best he sure the hell at least was top 5. That guy was a freak.

This makes a ton of sense.

So he will be the de facto veteran starter giving us a warm(-ish) body at the position going into the draft when Bud signs elsewhere for $13M per.

I'm betting some team offers 15M

I'd guess he's gone in the off-season whether Bud leaves or stays. Let Ola, Skip, and [Other] fight it out.
