so LB saved us 14. mill last year. and we were a few million under the cap going into last season. can we extend a few guys now and have some of that $$ go into 2018.

as in can we extend Ben today and have some of it hit into 2018.

or does all the money not spent in 2018 just roll right into 2019 and it doesn't matter when we extend them?

I'm not the expert but there is NO rolling backwards any portion of the salary cap. It would all count from current league year of contract and new league year starts March 13 and forward. LeMEon's cap savings goes into 2019 cap figures.

I understand LB 14 mill can go into 2019 what about the 2-3 mill we didn't spend in 2018 can that roll over also?

We rolled the 18 million over. That is why they don't care about the hit from AB as it is basically a wash - although they still need to replace him.

After the regular season, all new contracts are on the following year's cap. I think there's a drop dead date in the season to complete contracts as well. Around week 10.

It was reported by Bouchette and DKSports that with the savings from LB sitting out Pitt is currently sitting at 30 mil under the cap. That’s taking in what the 2019 cap will be. Ben currently costs 23 mil in cap space. Once his contract is redone no doubt that will add several more mil in cap space as well.

If they do it right it will free up more than a few mil. I would make it so that it cancels out ABs hit in the event he is traded. So that the team still has approx 30 mil after the cap increase, to play with.

Now if they get a high first and a 3rdor 4th in trade of AB, while AB pays back 1/3 or more bonus (7mil) as we try to place him in Frisco, we would be sitting pretty dang good. A high FA acquisition and we could be in business, defensive acquisition that is.

I cringe at what we might get for AB. One of the PG guys this week said if the Steelers have made up their mind to move on without AB, they would take a 2nd or even a 3rd rounder if that's all they are offered. I sure hope that's not the case. If it's me, I don''t take anything less than a 1st rounder. If not, AB stays and the law is put before him. Attend everything. Stay away from social media as far as the Steelers are concerned. Keep your mouth shut. Etc. If not, fine and suspend him without pay. I said this before, taking away his money and his stats are the only thing that will keep him in line. If he misses 2 or 3 games, that puts his 100/1000 streak in jeopardy.

Yeah..it’s really a no win situation. Couple of guys on Sirius we’re discussing outcome scenarios and with AB staying or leaving there is no “solvable resolution”. If he stays there will be talk all season about “how long until AB quits again”. Or if he’s traded the discussion will be “what if AB and his production had stayed”. In either case they are absorbing the 21 mil in cap hit for 2019.

These guys (former player, another an analyst, Barstool maybe) did comment that after watching AB’s appearance and mannerisms in Atlanta there is definitely something going on with AB the person.

Personally, I think he realizes he screwed up royally, but won’t admit it. This and by others telling him he can deflect the negativity to another, or by his narcissistic attitude that is fully out of control.

I would prefer not to lose AB the player, but his non-player baggage is outweighing what production he can put on the field.

I’ll say this too, and it has nothing to do with Tomlin the coach. You can use the enabling method on a kid, because it’s parents are responsible for it. But AB is a grown adult who should know the difference in business, even if it’s for sport. He isn’t stupid when it comes to business. Ignorant yes, but not stupid. When you combine ignorance with arrogance in business, there is only simple solutions. You either continue dealing with the distractions or move on.

If AB pays back some of his bonus for the privilege of going to the team he wants, does it remove that hit from the cap or do we just get the money back?

It is counted back to the cap. Any amount he pays back is credit to our cap and if possible use that option as leverage for him to help pick his destination.

Colbert: Hey Antonio my man,....... Where you think you might want to play?

AB: I can play where ever I want

Colbert: No AB, we have you locked in so we actually control where you are shipped off to.

AB: Ponders and thinks,... Re-thinks, talks to his mentors who tell him STEELERS are right.....

Colbert: inserts the pay-back as incentive for the STEELERS to work the desire able trade.....

AB: pays 14.8 mil back and says **** YOU to everyone in the STEELERS franchise, besides
.......(Billie, Alexandro, Nickalas, INSERT your name choice here) who is
........the son of the bottom of the ladder janitor.

Colbert: speaking to Art duece : Well Artie, we got a 2nd and a 3rd plus the money, not bad, not bad........

So you see anything is possible and I truly hope this is the direction the STEELERS can take.

Joel Corry predicted a future contract could potentially take Ben's cap hit from $23.2 million to about $15.2 million.

I really think you need to lower your expectations on his trade value. There will be no high first much less picks after for AB. What is realistic? I'd say a low first or high second and a player. His contract would be inviting to a contender or possibly a team like the 49ers looking to splash, but no one is giving top ten. No one.

Maybe we get a 3rd and a 5th from the Niners. Or Goodwin and a 3rd...something like that.

I see a mid first and another pick or player isn't too unreasonable. That position has been ridiculous in free agency. And a talent that usually is never available might be? We will see what the teams desperate for this type of talent offers. **** high draft picks bust out, this one is proven and beyond proven many consider him the best WR in football. Now I said what was reasonable. But it wouldn't shock me if a team went above and beyond that. It is a interesting unknown that afterwards might reshape free agency and then again it may not. Unusual situation that will be interesting to see how it ends.

if SF is the team I want 36, rnd 3 and Goodwin.
I do this then
With our pick I take DT Dexter Lawrence, 36 ILB Devin Bush rnd 3 WR rnd 3 OLB rnd 4 CB

FA OLB/De Smith
CB Dennard
DL Mcphee
WR Hogan
possibly try bringing Clay Matthews tell him we are all in for SB and want him.
With these additions especially Lawrence you can scrap the 2-4-5 and use 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 as your nickel bases and use Hargrave more as a rushing DE.
Smith edge rusher dennard and dennard opposite of haden, burns fights for spot with coty and cam.
Who knows he regains confidence and is the CB he was last year.

also can use a variety of 4 man fronts that will generate good pressure by moving around Heyward and tuitt next to Lawrence as well as gravedigger and add ola at times in 2 pt stance or rookie will it extremely hard to run on us.
