I've only just started playing around with the playoff scenario machine but so far it looks like if the Chargers beat the Ravens, then the Steelers game vs the Saints may not have any impact on their seeding.

The Ravens vs Chargers is Saturday so the steelers will know that outcome.

Working on some scenarios assuming the following,
Ravens lose to Chargers, beat Cleveland 9-7
Steelers lose to Saints, beat Cincy 9-6-1

That gives the Steelers the North crown and they are pretty well locked into the 4 seed.

To get the 2 seed, the steelers would need to win out, they would also need both the Texans and Pats to lose out.

Texans have Eagles and Jags. Possible they could go 0-2 because Eagles still have a shot at the playoffs and the Jags do have the talent to win. But it's unlikely because the Jags look to have quit on the season.

Pats have Bills and Jets. I could possibly see the Pats losing one of them but both? I just can't see that.

What about the 3 seed?

Looks like Steelers can get the 3 seed by going 2-0 then both the Pats and Texans going 1-1. But what does the 3 seed buy you over the 4 seed?

The 3 seeds will likely host the 6 seed Ravens or Colts
The 4 seed will certainly host the Chargers or Chiefs, whichever does not win the AFC West.

So that brings back that Ravens vs Chargers game. If Chargers win that game, then they have a shot at the 1 seed. Strange to say but Chargers and Chiefs are looking at either the 1 seed or the 5 seed.

Now, if the steelers are the 4 seed, it means a tougher wildcard game. But it would be a home game and it could set up an easier overall playoff road.

The Pats are looking at the 3 seed most likely. If the Ravens get that 6, then i think they beat the Pats. Their defense and run game could be too much for this Pats team. That means Pats eliminated and Ravens go to KC. Steelers then would go to the 2 seed Houston.

So from the 4 seed, the most likely road to me would look like
Chargers, @ Houston, @ KC

The 3 seed road probably looks like
Ravens/Colts, @ KC, @Hou or Chargers

Of course it's better to beat the Saints and get the best seed possible but just looking at possible outcomes, It looks to me like the Steelers are headed to the 4th seed so long as the beat the Bengals

Steelers need to win the same number of games as the rats or better. That rise in seeding is a long shot at best.

So not meaningless, as they want to win that game to avoid a last game must win scenario,

The best the Steelers can do is 4th seed and an AFCN t-shirt 'n hat regardless of a 2-0 or 1-1 finish.
Depending on the Rats to lose Saturday is foolish. A Steeler loss and Ratbird win would create a need for the Steelers to beat the Bengals and the Brownies to best the Rats!
There are idioti who are already saying the Bungles game is " meaningless"? Rest the starters?
After this weekend the Steelers could be faced with a "one and done" situation fer crissakes.

I'm always right, u rest the starters and take the virtual bye. Not even debatable, never risk injury to your superstars for some old woman superstition wailing about the past

This is the best case scenario. The rest of it really shouldn't matter

Yes it is meaningless.....

If the Ravens beat the Chargers, the Steelers chance of making the playoffs becomes unlikely. They would almost certainly need to beat the 5.5 point favorite Saints.

At first I thought the Ravens were hosting the Chargers, at which point I thought Ravens would win. But when realized it was the opposite, playing on the west coast greatly favors the Chargers, and they have their sights set on top seed in the playoffs. I'd be surprised if the Ravens pull out the win in LA.

That being said, the Saints will be a tough out on Sunday, so the Steelers need to bring their A+++ game. I'd like to see the Ravens put further back in the rear-view mirror by Monday.

I want Texans to win out so the Pats do not get the 2 seed. We need to win this weekend so we don’t have to rely on anyone beating the Ravens. Handle our business!

One game at a ******* time!

We just slayed the dragon!

Steelers should be coming in loose and Conner coming back could be another huge boost to Ben and his 5 WIDE!!!

That 5-wide against the Pats must have made you happy on Sunday.

You’re assuming a lot on Baltimore losing to Chargers.

And Keenan Allen was hurt last week. Chargers are getting their best player back in Gordon, and SD has a pretty good run defense, since Flacco has been out, the Ravens haven't faced a tough run defense yet.

Not out of question the new clowns beat the old clowns in week 17

They're all meaningless. Not making the playoffs and losing in the first round are the same thing.

Bree's will likely tune up this D en route to a home victory down in voodoo land, better hope the Chargers help us and beat the Rats or we will be on the outside looking in week 17 and depending on the Stains for help and watching as the Bungles cheap shot us to death trying to injure players for a potential Steeler playoff run.

The Saints game is far from meaningless, we need a win this week. Ya can't depend on others to do your bidding in the playoff stretch run, especially when we would depend on help from the Stains.

it is not meaningless if the Texans fall to the eagles and the jags and the patsies lose to buffalo. If the Texans lose both and the patsies lose either of their last two games (the buffalo match up would be more likely than the jets in week 17) and the Steelers win out, they get the 2nd seed....not real likely, but it could still happen

Didn't we need a bunch to happen on 05 and it did???
