I tear up every time I see Shaz. Man, that is tough. Just watching him walk away from the podium, you can tell he doesn't have full function of his leg and even his one arm. I honestly hope he gets full function back and never plays another snap of football. It just isn't worth the risk for him.

Basically an opportunity to thank everyone since the night in Cincinnati. He hadn’t had a chance to formally thank all the folks who took care of him afterwards, the front office, players, especially fans. He wanted give measure to all. Trying to be honest about coming back to play, but I think he’s also being realistic.

Thanks. So no major announcement about future. Best wishes Ryan.

Just so he can live a normal life is all we can hope for. His presence around the team is very inspiring.

Just watched the video. He's come a long way and given another year and a couple months, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back on the field. He definitely has a real passion for the game so if he can't play I have no doubt he'd be on the coaching staff.

If he did get out of the game he'd be an excellent motivational speaker for those who have had traumatic injuries.

I could see him on the field in some capacity. But probably not as a player.

I was telling ol girl last night. Not for us to ruin his dreams. But I think eventually he will have to adjust those dreams. To living a normal healthy life, without playing.

I see some residual effects, and not sure that will ever completely go away.

Just an observation but he did seem to move better than draft night. Obviously we all want him to just live a normal life but not sure I would completely shut it down he may never play. Cheering hard right along side of him if that’s what he wants to do.

There is a deep passion inside the man to recover what was lost. I cannot blame the man.

I can think of a man in Steeler lore whose story is stikingly similar, as he also had a life-changing event....

Remember Rocky Bleier?

Absolutely remember Rocky. Great story, great RB, tremendous blocker. Raiders Ted Hendricks tortured the Dolphins in the playoffs. The next week, Noll assigned Bleier to block him. Bleier dominates, Hendricks was a non-factor and the Steelers made their first Super Bowl.

But I just don't see Shazier every playing football again, and given that his spine is now fused, I don't think it would be a good idea.

Same here. He sure sounds motivated to though. And nice article on him being the NFL's best role model on SN.com front page.
