Elliot was untouched on all 3 of his TDs yesterday. Not one man laid a hand on him. Absolutely pathetic.

His last TD run, I still think that Shazier missed his gap assignment or overran the gap on the play. If he hits his gap with our DB's having contain on the outside, it should have been a stop for 0 gain. Not sure why we would blitz there, when everyone including Ray Charles and Helen Keller could see that they were going to run the ball to center up the kick. I wish the Steelers would admit that they let him score on the go ahead TD play, at least then I would have respect for Tomlin for actually playing to win a game for once instead of not to lose.

Yep. Bad coaching and bad tackling.

And the safties were where?

Safeties were out wide outside of the tackles in contain moving towards the LOS at the snap. It was pretty much a fire blitz which makes NO sense in that situation.

I really wish they would have come out and they let Elliott score his second to last touchdown. The fact that they were trying to stop him on those runs is embarrassing. It seems like ages ago when the Steelers allowed a 6 yard carry that there were major breakdowns. Now huge carries are a part of the routine.

one thing? so many things bothered me about the run d yesterday..... they played with no discipline, they over ran plays, coaches calling pass defense when everyone knew it was run, Jarvis gets boxed out of almost every play... It just doesn't stop.....

Why was Jones even out there on that last drive?
It seemed like when Harrison was in there they were doing a little better stopping the run.
I saw him out there and was like WTF?

This defense has found itself on the dark side of the moon where is can't defend the pass or the run yikes. as bad as its been I still think they turn things around and muster up a playoff run. But that said we need to fired the defensive staff and reboot. Its not just us, all the teams that run this half *** "hybrid" defense like Green Bay are having the same problems. Line the *** up and hit the offense mouth.. that's how defensive football has been played in wpa since they have been playing it here. When you go away from the things that you know work you do so at your own peril and this defense, this team, is in peril.

I mentioned this in another post. They should have McCullers or Hargrave in at NT on all three downs for the rest of the year. They need 3 linemen, period. It certainly can't be any worse than what they've been doing with only 2 D-linemen on downs 2, 3 and even 4.

Deebo needs to be out there on every expected running down.

I agree short term but realize the root of the problem. We want to reley on a near 40 OLB as our younger OLB is 1st rnd poop. Hard to stop the leak from the outside when the hole originates from the inside. CAN you hear me Mr Tomlin?????

Salute the nation

There were safeties? O.o

---they were nearly non existent all game

I saw Davis get blocked on the long pass Elliot took the distance, and Mitchell takes a terrible angle in the chase.

This could be our worst group of safeties int he past 40 years!

Rob Golden missed badly on a tackle on that play too. Over ran and tried trip him up with one hand.

My question on that long screen pass was that after watching the game again last night and pausing the TV, 3 Dallas defenders released from their blocks before the ball was thrown. One of them was almost 5 yards down field before Prescott threw the ball and the other one was 2.5-3 yards down field. How is that not an illegal man downfield penalty?

Read what Tomlin said and what another Burgh reporter says about our D. They keep talking about not needing a NT because they use their substitute package so much. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the freakin problem! Why would you ever run a substitute package with only 2 D-linemen. It has not worked for 2 years now. You need a NT that can play on all 3 downs and get push into the backfield. Linebackers have to rely on their speed to get any kind of pressure. Most are dead meat as soon as they get locked up with the O-lineman. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, does anyone that watches a lot of football see any other teams doing this and having success? I don't think I have seen any other team only use 2 D-linemen on a regular basis, let alone for 2/3 of a game.

Agreed

Spot on with this...trying to be a hero and overshot his area of responsibility. Tomlin was blistering him on the sidelines for it. Coach is accurate on what Mitchell did on that play. Blown angle to the play. Poor execution on his part and has done it often this year.

Yeah it's one thing on a 3rd and long, but we use that damn 2DL garbage on obvious running downs and running situations too, one of the dumbest things I've seen. It's a total mismatch, you're basically going against their 5 300+lb OLINEMEN, with 2 DL and 3 240lb LBs who obviously get shoved all over the place
