Kudos to the Steelers front office for not letting Ulysees, Skipper, or Ola available to be plucked on to a roster. All 3 have had amazing highlights this preseason, and all 3 were protected. Now what does this do to the roster? It means we have 10 LBs and 5 WRs.

So in all likelihood, the Steelers will be placing a LB on IR (Chick or Ola), and then will promote another receiver. Also may be a possibility that the Steelers trade one of these LBs for a 3rd TE or draft pick, but their MO is usually throwing a guy on IR and allowing the rest to compete. Chick is a good candidate to be IRed. They've been very quiet about his chest injury, and no talk of him practicing at all. Ola should be practicing this week, with his meniscus timetable.

The league is hungry for pass rushers, and the Steelers were right to protect them. They were also DEEP at WR this year. Honestly I feel the Steelers were 8 deep, as in all 8 could contribute on an NFL roster. Now Eli, Holton, and Spencer are all waiting the PS, and I believe one will be called up.

Holton has the most position flexibility (X, Z, all ST)
Spencer is the best returner and can play all 3 spots at receiver
Eli is athletic, can return kicks, and the Steelers are comfortable with him.

All have positives, but the Steeelers love their ST guys, and Holton, I believe has the inside track. I'd PS Spencer and bring him up in the cold months, when returns get more active. Eli would be added to the roster, the second Switzer gets any injury.

Anyone else see any other roster moves the Steelers can make?

Is Eli really PS eligible? He has been on the regular roster for quite awhile. I believe someone is going to sign him anyway.

We know what we get with Chick and I really wanna see some Ola and Tuzar. IR Chick be my wish. Did Spencer or Holton get any first team reps? I only recall seeing them late in games. Agree on Gentry keeping him makes no sense. And there's already talk of Luke Willson TE to *'s. Who would you wanna bring in here Cope?

I would think someone will snag Eli too. I would have flew with two QBs. Put Duck on the PS. I would have kept Gentry not to thin an already weak position. I wouldn't be in favor of trading one of our LBers as the team finally has good depth for STs and positional. I don't want to rob Peter to pay Paul. I guess if they value the three WRs the same then it is ok to roll the dice with 5. And float the rest to the PS. But deep threats are a little harder to come by. I would IR Chick or Layne and bring Holton back immediately. They can give up a draft pick for a TE if a trade is desired. Or trade Dobbs for one.

I think Fred should have been sent to PS. We are carrying too many olinemen that can do the same thing. That's also why we don't have many receivers.

Spencer looked good at retuning kicks yet Switzer is labeled return man, we have lacked consistent return yardage seems for ever so who will do the job and who will sit

They are planning on moving someone. O think it will be more than an IR roster move too. An LB or Dobbs, or someone, idk but i don't think they keep just 5 wr.

I don't think Eli is PS eligible. Also not subject to waivers. Either they cut him because it's easy to bring him back once they've IR-ed somebody, or his whole camp arrival display was enough for them to want to move on.

Is there any real doubt that Eli Rogers isn’t snapped up by the Gawd Damn patriots*** before Wednesday? It just has all their cheating *** fingerprints all over that.

And also, I was still hopeful they would keep him. I'd prefer him over Switz as a WR.

I will add. I would have kept 6WRs and only 2 TEs. No one is claiming Gentry, and there is better talent on the cutting room floor for TEs.

Agree. I could live with losing Eli, much rather see Holton big play potential or Spencer provide us with something on returns we haven't had in years. Gentry to the practice squad and see what else becomes available at TE.

While I originally thought that as well, I also thought about the OL starved teams swapping picks/players for OL and then Arians giving us a draft pick for Hawkins. Arians apparently loved our OL depth and I'm sure other teams did too. And Fred Johnson was considered to be one of the best players not drafted, so I'm kinda glad they held on to the big fella.

Eli gone I can deal with because he gets injured alot and we still have Switzer. Can't they still sign DH to the PS ? Gentry to PS and see what else becomes available in the TE department via trading Dobbs or future draft picks as you mentioned. See Chick as a possible expendable or IR ....want to see what the other guys can do given an opportunity..
rob Peter to pay Paul ..... I am ok with this
I don't like risking the loss of Holton or D Spencer.... one or both are very intriguing and could give us some big play potential..... fingers crossed that nobody steals them away

I agree. I think the current roster is an attempt to get Skipper and Gilbert through. I think there will be moves made yet to get a sixth receiver on the roster. If someone even got dinged, you couldn't go empty. If someone was out for a week there would have to be waived.

Switzer is stable back there but I don't see him providing big yardage plays. Spencer is a very durable guy for his size, has great burst and is able to cut back against the grain better than anyone I have seen in years. Hope he is not picked up by someone else.

My hangover won't let me contribute to the conversation, yet...but I like your assessment...

I like your assessment of you.

Spencer picked up by the Broncos. Good luck to him.

I thought for sure if Eli or Ryan got cut, spencer / Holton would get a 53 pass. Gentry seems like he is taking up space for what we are getting but then I'm not there everyday to assess him.

Also nice post slash but by waiving Dobbs that's just us NOT getting anything for a developed player, I dislike that imensley. I would have like to see them pushing Dobbs after game one preseason, but probably no bites.

And a TE comes flying off the board.

Ricky Seals-Jones TE, Cleveland Browns

[h=3]Browns claimed TE Ricky Seals-Jones off waivers from Cardinals.[/h]
Seals-Jones was pushed out of Arizona with Kliff Kingsbury likely using more four-receiver sets than anyone in the NFL. He'll have to settle in as a low-snap player behind David Njok

How developed is Dobbs though? Year three when a player is supposed to rise, he took a step back.

For every positive splash play we would get a negative one. I mean I am all for getting what we can for players. But I am thinking his value is minimal...
