Kudos to the Steelers front office for not letting Ulysees, Skipper, or Ola available to be plucked on to a roster. All 3 have had amazing highlights this preseason, and all 3 were protected. Now what does this do to the roster? It means we have 10 LBs and 5 WRs.
So in all likelihood, the Steelers will be placing a LB on IR (Chick or Ola), and then will promote another receiver. Also may be a possibility that the Steelers trade one of these LBs for a 3rd TE or draft pick, but their MO is usually throwing a guy on IR and allowing the rest to compete. Chick is a good candidate to be IRed. They've been very quiet about his chest injury, and no talk of him practicing at all. Ola should be practicing this week, with his meniscus timetable.
The league is hungry for pass rushers, and the Steelers were right to protect them. They were also DEEP at WR this year. Honestly I feel the Steelers were 8 deep, as in all 8 could contribute on an NFL roster. Now Eli, Holton, and Spencer are all waiting the PS, and I believe one will be called up.
Holton has the most position flexibility (X, Z, all ST)
Spencer is the best returner and can play all 3 spots at receiver
Eli is athletic, can return kicks, and the Steelers are comfortable with him.
All have positives, but the Steeelers love their ST guys, and Holton, I believe has the inside track. I'd PS Spencer and bring him up in the cold months, when returns get more active. Eli would be added to the roster, the second Switzer gets any injury.
Anyone else see any other roster moves the Steelers can make?
