PITTSBURGH -- It was 2007, Bruce Arians' first season as Steelers offensive coordinator and Dan Kreider's last as Steelers fullback.

But, according to Rex Ryan, it wasn't B.A. who did away with Kreider. That was B.S.

"I'll never forget the time when he had this fullback who was chirping," Ryan began.

Ryan is the the coach of this week's Steelers opponent, the Buffalo Bills, and he was regaling Pittsburgh media Wednesday with a favorite Mike Tomlin story.

"Pittsburgh beat us pretty good one day in Baltimore. They actually killed us," Ryan continued. "And at the end of the game, we're still competing, and this fullback was standing on the sideline by Tomlin. He was talking noise to Bart Scott. And Bart was over there 'Come on back on the field and we'll settle it on the field.' And Mike looked at him and said, 'Bart, you want a piece of this fullback?' And he goes, 'Hell, yeah.' So Tomlin ran an isolation at him. Bart separated the dude's shoulder."

Ryan stopped to laugh loudly as the reporters remained quiet.

"Might not have been the best thing," Ryan said as he collected himself. "But I think it shows you the kind of competitor Mike is and just the fact both of us are old-school guys as far as football, and appreciative of the players that play the game.

"I enjoy going up against his teams. Of all the games you go up against, it's like, wow, because the only way you're going to win this one is your team's got to be more physical, and that's always been a staple of a Mike Tomlin-coached team."

I do not remember this at all. Lol. Given the fact Kreider was up there in age and already broken down it's no wonder Fart Scott won the battle. Scott would've been a carpet rug in Kreiders prime

This. The only back I remember getting his shoulder separated by a rats player was ***** Mendenhall, which was in '08. The foot doctor is just shooting his mouth off.

Rex Ryan told two stories in yesterday's press conference that demonstrate the respect he has for Mike Tomlin, and why the Jets are dialing down the rhetoric for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Both stories came from a 2007 game between the Ravens and Steelers, when Ryan was defensive coordinator for Baltimore. Pittsburgh led 35-7 at halftime, but instead of running the score up further, Ryan says they ran the ball on nearly every play in the second half. (The final score was 38-7.)

Later in that same game, a fullback on the sidelines was taunting Jets linebacker Bart Scott, who dared the fullback to come back into the game. Tomlin, who overheard the jawing, sent the fullback on the field and called an isolation playing require him to block Scott one-on-one. According to Ryan, Scott separated the fullback's shoulder on the play.

Great story, but did it really happen?

Well, the Steelers had two fullbacks in 2007. One was veteran Dan Kreider and the other was Carey Davis. A quick search for either of their names, plus "separated shoulder" turns up no relevant hits.

Kreider played limited minutes that year, until suffering a season-ending ACL injury against Miami, two weeks after the Baltimore game.

Davis played every game that season and not only does he not appear to have been injured against the Ravens, he carried the ball three times on Pittsburgh's final drive. Perhaps Tomlin did give him the ball in response to the trash talking, but Scott did not injure him.

Oh, and Steelers continued to throw the ball well into the fourth quarter, even after Ben Roethlisberger was injured and turned the game over to Charlie Batch.

We're not saying Ryan's a liar. Memory is a fuzzy thing and there's no reason to doubt that he and Tomlin do have tremendous respect for each other. But like all war stories, this one appears to have been embellished for effect.

I think sexy rexy is full of **** !!!! Dan Kreider pancaked the rayray when rayray was in his prime and Kreider did it regularly. I hope Tomlin reminds his team of the urgency of this game.

Salute the nation

Rex should have mentioned the stoning Kreider inflicted on Old Slice...

That wasn't just a shoulder separation. That was the most wicked hit I ever witnessed. Ray Lewis hit Mendy so hard in the hole that he broke his scapula. The scapula is the shoulder blade, on your back. He was hit so hard from the front, that his shoulder joint was pushed through the socket and still had enough force to break the bone behind it. Pretty amazing that he walked off the field after that.

Now Rex can tell the story of how Bell tore his defense a new ******* and probably ended Rex's coaching career.

he would end it with

" there is no toe dancing around it, our run D sucked, I'd slap the D coordinator if he didn't look like me"
