This is really interesting. Balt, Pitt and a couple other teams have all been on heightened restrictions regarding COVID. Virtual position meetings, distanced practices, etc. very limited engagement inside the facilities.

Curious to know if the contact tracing identifies staff and players during treatment. I know the most definitive and thorough test happens the morning of games. All test results are received the following morning. So if it’s not an out break, does the tracing includes the other team on game days?

I question how thorough some of them have been as far as their tracing methods. I wonder if a few are being totally honest too.

Contact tracing is done via a wearable device that is required when players/coaches/personnel are at the team's facilities, practices, etc. They also somehow have these devices built into their equipment for game days. So, at least the NFL isn't relying on the players to report their own contacts. And, if they are smart, the league should have the teams submit a copy of each player's raw contact data on a weekly basis. Say each Monday.

Lamar is not happy. If he thought the game was going to be hard on Thanksgiving... it just got a whole lot harder.

I'm not overlooking the backups but they ain't Dobbins or Ingram...

I think Gus had 70 some yards on us. He isn't Dobbins but he seems capable. Although I know we had Tyson out and that was a big loss last time.

Good, 'cause if I remember correctly, Gus threw down about 120some yards on us in the last game of last year.

The average is about 4 contact traces for each postive covid test. Funny how the Rats only have 1 contact trace with 2 positive players...

you don't think the league would hide **** to make the game as competitive as possible do you????

yeah I know it is a stupid question

Karma is a *****, they played players that were sick last time against us.

Unfortunately, you can about guaranfuckintee they'll be doing it again on Thursday.

Tyson Alualu is the best run stuffer in the middle we've had since Big Snack. Change my mind.

No doubt. This game is a playoff game for them basically. They're going to circumvent every rule/protocol possible, and I don't blame them -- because they know they need it.

The good news is that should the pestilence covered rabid ratbirds be contagious and give the virus to our players, they have 9 days before they have to play again, and honestly the WTF’s are literally the least important potential loss left in the schedule... if we had to be shorthanded for a game, that is the one to have it happen

Alualu has performed admirably as a surprise fill-in after loss of Hargrove. But what makes him a dominant run stuffer outside of 10 game data set this year.

Discarding the Baltimore game (injury)—his highest snap count has been at 60% (Titans) and he’s playing 43% of all defensive snaps otherwise.

Compare that with Heyward (85%) and Tuitt (82%). Even in the early part of the season (when rush defense was performing higher level) there were games Alualu played literally less than half the # of snaps of his linemates.

He’s playing considerably less than Hampton did, even when Hampton was no longer at his peak.

No, the run defense has not been keyed by Alualu at close to the same level. Not to discount his contribution—which deserves full marks. But teams having success against run has been more than one player.

#1–it’s been a team effort that has been impacted harshly by losses of Hilton & Bush.

#2-teams get film and study to find areas to attack.

#3-Steelers D is purposely playing more aggressive sets—result of offense being able to generate points at 29/game. Turnovers have increased even though sacks have decreased (pressure remains constant).

Hampton was never a “run stuffer” to begin with. 3 inches shorter & 30 lbs heavier—his role was to command 2 blockers so his LBs could make plays — run or pass.

The NT position that Hampton played doesn’t exist anymore in the NFL now.

Alualu is a valuable part of the team’s defensive effort, but he’s not even the most critical element of stopping the run on the team now... take Heyward or Tuitt out and you’d see the extent

Key statement right there. The game is ever changing. I loved Big Snack, but NT's just don't get the snaps and make the impact they did 10 years ago.

They will also be fighting for their playoff lives. This is a very dangerous team.

Alualu is no surprise to me. I said it the past 2 years that when he went in the games, he looked as good and sometimes better than Hargrave. His only downfall is he is getting old.

I never said the NT position Hampton played is what Alualu does, I said Alualu was the best run stuffer in the middle since Big Snack. And you're going to say with a straight face Big Snack wasn't a run stuffer? Because his job was to command double-teams and uh, clog the middle?

And these numbers tell a very different story about how critical Alualu is to stopping the run:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">One stat to show the value of Tyson Alualu. <br><br>Opponent YPC when Alualu is on the field: 1.98<br><br>Opponent YPC when Alualu isn't on the field: 5.40<br><br>Massive, massive difference. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Steelers?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Steelers</a></p>— Alex Kozora (@Alex_Kozora) <a href="https://twitter.com/Alex_Kozora/status/1329886952057958404?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 20, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Now I know one person doesn't make or break these things, but they can sure as hell make a huge difference. Heard Brandon Williams of the shitbirds is out for the game because of Covid. Ask Baltimore what he means to their run defense.

He is getting older, and he might be playing his best ball ever.
