If he plans sitting out for most of the season,...I pull the tag immediately after week 10, before he has a chance to sign it and report for the last 6 games. The $5M they will save in salary is worth more than a 3rd round comp pick.

Why pull the tag? You would jeopardize receiving a comp pic. Saving $5 mil? It’s more like they are paying $5 mil for a $14.5 mil/ year player. You don’t give up an asset for nothing. Business 101.

I like this. You can get a decent veteran free agent for 5 million a year.

#Screw Bell

Decent FA when? After you pull the tag in November? There are no players at that time. That $5 mil gets rolled over, and will be used for Ben’s extension.

Pulling the tag is a vengeful; fans pipe dream... aint happening... ... if he sits out the full 10, the steelers should hold him out two more without pay.

My guess is if Connor has a good game or two he will be back in a heartbeat... if not Bell will miss a few games so his touches wont scare suitors off then will report... his agent probably has a number in mind

Want to know why you don't pull the tag Coach? Because that is exactly what his agent wants. A brand spanking new contract, and a HUGE pay day.

His agent is a mosquito in the world of sports agents. Bell is his only blue chipper and Tyrod is his only other client of note that still plays. Steelers can **** that guy hard, and will, if he chooses to play hardball. They know his only real payday is linked to Bell, so this could get really nasty and ugly for him.

Holdout till week 11, Steelers place the 2week exemption, and bang he's ineligible. Bell would then holdout the rest of the year, and the Steelers save all $14.4M that rolls over to next year and he would then be tagged again, for the exact same amount, for a net cost of ZERO dollars!!! Nonexempt tag him, and now we're getting 2 firsts instead of a 3rd round comp. Now you're forcing his agent to work a contract with another team, having to include the value of 2 first round picks. A much tougher sell. Really want to **** him? Exclusive tag him again. That means you're not getting another pay day for another year.

There is VALUE in keeping Bell. Dump him and you're moron who gets NOTHING!!!

PS there is no limit to how you can use the nonexempt or exclusive tag options.

Like Pouncy said,....it's no longer business. **** Bell. Never won **** with him anyway.

The two first-round draft picks are worth it. Let him sit. If he wants to go all Jason Worilds and walk away, then fine.

And I think the Steelers might actually do this if they have to. At this stage its all about stocking the team with the best players they can. I'd gladly put the screws to Bell to get TWO first round picks.
