The Steelers need to sort out the Bell circus one way or another. My solution? Rescind the tag, trade for Earl Thomas and use Bell's money on a guy that would give us 3-4 years at FS and fix the back end of our defence.

So what do you think? Rescind the tag or not?

Nope. I let him sit out and gain cap room every week, doubling next year's cap space. Then take the 3rd round comp.

This!!!!!!!!!!?

Yep what Cope said.

And by some slim chance he signs that tag before the trade deadline. I am working those phones for a trade to see if I can get a better than that third round comp pick.

Somehow I'm having a flashback to how the world was ending when they let Plaxico Burress walk after the 2004 season and then they went out and won the SB without him the very next year.

Maybe that's what Bell's plan is. Piss off the FO enough to cut him so he can become a free agent right now

Can't trade him til he signs the tag, so....

I do EXACTLY what Cope and then slash said. Worst case scenario I make dang sure I set him the two unpaid weeks if nothing else can be done. Timing of the signature governs.

Yeah, if he sits out til week 10, which is when he's required to sign in order to accrue the season, isn't it like 8mil in cap space we add? Do that.

This sounds like the best option at this point. One question - assuming he sits out until week 10, do we have the option to tag him with the exclusive rights tag for 2019 that allows us to match the offer or get two first-round picks? If we can, I can't figure out why we didn't do that this year. It would have worked out best for both of us - he gets the money he wants and we get draft compensation. Am I missing something here?

I'm guessing there are restrictions on what you can tag a player with once he's been franchised but I don't know.

My heart says pull the tag at week 8 or 9, but I just know a team like NE will pick him up and it will be Deebo 2.0. The cap room would be great, but it screws us out of a quality back that they were counting on and letting him go anywhere he pleases as a FU to the organization.

Only those in the organization know how much of a prick Bell really is, but based on Pouncey, DeCastro, and Foster speaking out, he's lost the majority of the offensive line. A nasty divorce is coming, and Bell by letting his agent go on Twitter is losing what little respect he has left in the locker room. In fact, he has used Twitter before to attack the Steelers.

I still hope for a sign the tag and trade ( I was hoping to move this cancer pre-draft ) , but Bell has to be willing to do that, and another team who has the cap space ( Say Jets or Colts ) need to be on board. I hope Colbert is trying to work the phones now. He has been excellent lately on trades

If that can not happen, I hope the Steelers give Bell's agent final terms. Sign before date XYZ, or we are pulling the tag. And he does not sign the contract, PULL offer and move on.

It would be MONUMENTALLY stupid for us to pull the tag.
There are many other options to be done with Bell so we still get the 3rd round comp we'll have coming, and/or small almost non-existent tag sign/trade for some type of possible better comp from a team that promises him the world in the off-season.
We can't let him walk for nothing, especially not at this stage.

“Sign before x date or pull the tag or if tag is not signed pull the contract (tag) and move on”

Do you even read what you type? Do you even read what is posted before you post? There is no reason to pull the tag whatsoever.

Every game Bell misses increases the cap space 900k. Every game Bell misses decreases his ability to show other teams what he can do on the field. Thus decreases his monetary value on the next contract.

The fact that his agent publicly stated that Steelers plans in using him endangers his future earnings, while acknowledging his “overuse” or ability to be a no 1 RB and no 2 WR at the same time makes him “a once in a generation type player” shows he is talking out both sides of his mouth. You can’t have it both ways agent. He’s showing his greenness in the sports agent market. Just like you showing us your fascination with being ridiculed.

Do you even read what I write? Tell me which date I said to pull the tag. Please show me. You don't see the words right away, this week or next week do you? Its called a NEGOTIATION tactic.

I'm for a sign and trade if possible.

If the Steelers choose to rescind the tag, it will be on principle, and I bet most owners will offer thunderous applause.

My heart tells me cut him,my brain says that's what he wants. I'm conflicted in that. Whatever works out best for the team overall. So I figure they let this roll on. Which will be grand theft when he does show. What are you really getting. That's the big question.

Go Conner!

nope, get him in here...get his signature, work out a trade to the jets or another crappy team for their #1 next year, use that pick and the Steelers #1 to trade up with whoever has the #1 overall pick and get Ed Oliver

Hahahaha....you put your original post ABOVE my quote and then comment afterwards......So obsessed with yourself.

The “x” or date doesn’t matter genius, it’s the fact you say “pull the tag”. To do so would serve no purpose other than to sacrifice compensation the team would DESERVE to receive under the CBA. It is not a negotiation tactic idiot, it’s what’s allowed under the CBA. You don’t think the FO would love to have the chance to be negotiating with Bell right now? They can’t because the CBA says so. So as Burt Lauren tweeted, Bell’s agent can contact their offices at any time. Which obviously he hasn’t.

Get a clue.....or do what you do and start another thread about the same friggin thing.

So you want a cancer on the football team who's close to being outcast by the locker room? Maybe the Steelers don't Ike!

You have no clue.....

The players want Bell to get his coin, that’s not their issue with him. They don’t like being put in the position that they are....answering questions about Bell. They know they are a better team with him than without him, but if he isn’t there, he isn’t helping the team. TEAM. If he had a plan to sit out, then he should communicate it. Not leave the media bombarding his teammates for answers.

When he shows up, whether next week or by week 10 and apologizes to putting them in that situation, they will welcome him back. Why? Because they know if he is healthy and in shape they have a better chance to win.

If you pull Bell’s tag at any point, he will be unemployed for about 4 seconds til someone scoops him up and gives him whatever he wants. Gaining the cap space through this holdout is THE best thing that can happen. Hope he holds out til week 10.

I dont think the players are mad about the media asking questions. They are mad that he isnt there. He now is hurting the team.
