Continue to hear the Steelers were locked in on that corner in 2nd round. They really liked him for better or worse. Weren't going TE there

Wouldn't surprise me, Williams lacks the blocking skills that the Steelers like. So the Ravens may have panicked and were baited into trading up. Word is they were pissed we grabbed Dupree, they tried to trade up to grab him too but couldn't offer enough so they didn't want us to deny them another pick.

I think being "locked onto a position" is all I really need to know about why this regime is having problems in the draft.

National guy says one thing, local another. Steelers may have leaked they tried to trade up to appease fanbase who was very interested in the team drafting Williams.

I would have put my foot through thumbring's tee-vee screen if we picked a ******* TE there

Isn't there a distinction between player and position.......JC is saying player

Me too, although I wouldn't have been quite as upset about it there as if they'd traded up to do it.

I think most of the fanbase was against picking Maxx there.

agree, didn't want him. A Jesse James or Heuermann later is a better value option

this was one of the worst drafts for TE according to everyone - so getting the 'best' of the worst is not something I would want either

well those fans are idiots - we barely throw to TE's anyway, do people even watch the games?

taking a lumbering TE that can't block in the 2nd would have really pissed me off - Ben says we can find a better one next year

I think the guy we were targeting was Rowe

We didn't want Maxx Williams in the 2'nd. Had we wanted him then we would have negotiate with the team perhaps a couple spots ahead of the Cards and moved up two or three spots. That round had CB written all over it and I for one like Golson as the pick. Abandon the thoughts that the guy is too short at 5'9", he can play. He's a playmaker of which we haven't had in a long time. 10 interceptions playing in the best conference in college football, made 1'st team All SEC and 1'st team all American. If the guy had two more inches in height he's the first CB taken in this draft. We need him and he will contribute right away.

Don't know much of the fan base that was overly interested in drafting Williams. Most that I've seen were not upset about the pick of a CB, but rather "THAT" CB. I think picking Williams would have gotten an "eh, whatever" reaction.

Look, we didn't get a TE that is basically a big, slow WR, We did get a big fast WR that blocks incredibly well... I am OK with that.

Twitter fanbase was all over Williams and was pissed when the Ravens moved up.

People think the CB Golson was a reach. Just imagine where they would be if they drafted Maxx Williams. Then they would have had to take a CB in rd 3 and they lose Sammie Coates. WR was a bigger need than TE and at that point there were no TEs off the board.

Whether the steelers really wanted WIlliams or not, it's good they did not get him.

I think it was Mark Kabole was on 97/3 The Fan this morning and said the Steelers were a little pissed the Ravens moved up to take Williams. They tried to trade with the Bungals to swop spots, but had no success, so they stayed put and picked Golson.

All I'm going to say is, if you REALLY want someone, move up earlier and draft him. If it makes sense. If he's gone by the time of your pick, he wasn't meant to play for your team.

I think it was Rowe too.. They decided on option 2 the ole miss kid...

Been reading more in the sports news about how Colbert was absolutely taking a CB in the 2nd. Looks like Ozzie Newsome got played like a grand piano. :)

Regardless, I think we got better value in the 5th for James than a 2nd for Williams. Time will tell, but the FO addressed many needs and didn't have to sacrifice any picks to do it.
