You got JuJu, whom I love but truthfully, I just don't see him as a #1. I would consider him one of the best #2s in the game, but a #1? I just can't get there.
You got Washington who seems to have all this potential, but doesn't "potential" just piss you off? I wanna see James Washington frickin EXPLODE!
Now Chase Claypool enters the scene. The first thing I notice off the bat is we have 3 WRs who are a bit bigger, a bit lankier and I admit the very first thing that crosses my mind is... "But are any of them really deep threats?" (Yes, I know Claypool ran a 4.42. I know Washington has a knack for deep balls. I know JuJu has shown in the past he's got freaky good game speed.) But none of them scream to me... "He's a home-run threat!"
What I LIKE is that they are all some big-*** motherfuckas. They seem big, actually pretty fast, all things considered and when you have 3 guys that can take a ball over the middle, take that shot and get up, well that gives you some options.
I watched Claypool's college highlight reel and while it was nice, I wasn't blown away. It's not like he just dominated over DBs or anything. But he does make tough catches, takes some good hits and clearly he's a fighter who will work for an extra few yards.
I guess I find it interesting that we are transitioning from a guy like AB who forces teams to account for him and that opens up other guys accordingly, to a situation where you have three "bruisers" that can just make some in-traffic catches and create a passing game "ground n pound" kinda vibe. And if Washington decides to kick it up a notch or two, you better watch out for him sneaking out for the deep throw which he has shown can be his money-play. (Dude makes some nice deep catches now and then.)
Man I hope this is a physically dominating WR corps that just pounds the crap out of opposing defenses. I really do.
