Rams are releasing RB Todd Gurley, per source. Cutting him today spares the Rams from having to pay him an additional $10.5 million due today. Rams spent weeks exploring a trade for him. Now Gurley will be free to sign with any team.

break out the template?

I think I'm only interested in signing guys who were cut. The way things are looking right now, the Steelers are gonna be in good shape with comp picks next year. Line those up for trades and to rebuild young, cheap depth.

Naw his wheels done fell off. Hard pass. This right here is why RBs don't get paid. By the time they get that second contract they got 1, maybe 2 years of elite life left and they're toast.

I agree he was barely used in the playoffs and super bowl, and last year he was average at best.

But he’s a year removed from injury. Could be a nice prove it contract 1 year decent base but lots on incentives.

Please dont encourage anyone to use the template that SB year he got hurt played on a injured ACL and has never been the same, that busrt is 1/2 of what it was he is a back up type back now, that would be a good fit for tampa, saints , bills. offers us nothing.

maybe if the trend of a dry RB market with melvin getting no where he tought he would get maybe he wants to join a contender at a cap friendly short term deal and when that deal is over than cash in.

Does not bold well for the Devonta Freemans and Melvin Gordons of the RB world..... they will still find work but not in the salary range they were expecting... Gordon should have locked up that 10 million last year
There is a solid group of young guns available in the draft.
Zeke is the only one of the four big contract RBs who haven't fallen off the tracks like Gurley, Johnson and Bell for their respective teams. Bell hasn't sustained injury issues ....it is more about the current team around him.

hopefully the rb stays try and say gordon or freeman agree to a 1 or 2 year deal with.

Bell gonna go the way of Freeman and Gurley if he has a repeat of last year.

Agree.....Bell has a huge spotlight on him going forward.

Teams have experimented with the huge pay increases at RB and so far many are failing miserably...

These guys take such a beating on almost every touch carrying the ball , not to mention picking up blitzers in pass protection. It only stands to reason their bodies will break down sooner than some of the other positions on the field. There are not alot of Frank Gores or APs out there.

I'd give him a prove-it contract in a heartbeat. Dude still had plenty left in the tank but they wouldn't use him.

I would rather have a G or T in free agency. It is what I am hoping for.

Pass as a not up to speed and hurting RB isn't a high priority. Other needs that merit higher attention.

Saute the nation

What does it matter if you have Gurley or even Zeke if you don’t have a line to block for you. Right now we have a big need at G. Also, it wasn’t as though our o line played amazing last year.

old coaching saying:

a good line can make a bad back look good.
a great line can make a good back look great.
the greatest back in the world can not make a bad line look good.

On the Colin Cowherd show today Colin who is very connected to the Rams said Gurle was a cancer in the locker room and the team couldn;t wait to get rid of him. Said the money went to his head and he is a shot back. This is supported by the 13 million the Rams eat in cap space this year, the 12 million in 21, the 13 million in 22 and the 11 they eat in 23. That is 59 million in cap space they could not even trade him for 7th round pick to help offset the cap hits thats how bad they wanted him gone.

That's a shitload of money. Long term contract should only be for high character guys, at least that's how I would do business
