JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ben Roethlisberger is at the pinnacle of his career when it comes to his knowledge of the game and his athleticism.

That was proven last year when he threw for a club-record 4,952 yards and again Friday night during his limited time on the field against the Jaguars.

Still, that doesn't mean he doesn't need to work on things.

Quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner, who praised Roethlisberger for being able to change the trajectory of the ball on the move better than anyone he ever saw, said Roethlisberger could improve in one area: his film work.

“Ben can always get better during the week putting the time in with film work and really getting a feel for what's going to happen to him,” Fichtner said.

Roethlisberger completed 3 of 3 pass attempts for 59 yards and a 44-yard touchdown to Martavis Bryant on Friday against Jacksonville.

Won't be long til you get: "Tomlin is not making Ben study film."

I actually think Rothlesburgher is actually putting in some film time. He knows what will get hem to where he wantsa to be. Earlier in his career, he was to arrogant, now not so much.

Salute the nation

Read that article. Thought it was real F'n stupid.

Great, awesome quote Randy. You are basically saying the star QB doesn't really put in enough time preparing in the film room. QB coach really. That is kind of a joke in itself. I've seen this offense run better with Ben calling the plays than damn OC. Now the QB coach thinks he could do more. Tell you what Randy. Why don't you be like the New England guys and just keep your friggen trap shut. Dumb ***.

Motivational tactic. He knows Ben is great, just pushing him to be greater

90 mins of film study on tuesday makes the QB rating go up 4.6%.

I read it on SNS a while back, before it got all political.

You hear about guys like manning who live in the film room, then watch as they overthink things and analyze incorrectly in clutch moments and wonder when is it too much? Film study is useful, but a coach or heck even an intern can watch 80 hours of film to get the key moments that a QB needs to study in a condensed form... Batch already said Ben puts enough time in the film room... with how instinctive he plays, I don't think we need him to overanalyze things on the field

Manning has added to his game over the years with film study. Not sure I buy into he over-analyzes. maybe tries to do too much? and now he is getting up in age.

I am sure there is also a point you can burn yourself out. But I am with the thought that pre game tape preperation helps more than it could hurt.

lol what the hell was that?

They do some drills to get the QBs moving to avoid pressure in the pocket, so they were just using blocking pads here. Ben's session was true to life.

All the better DCs would wait till big games then go counter to their norms in critical situations and befuddle him... 05 was a prime example... when he was saying that he never saw them do some of those things all year after getting spanked in the playoff game (and score aside, he was spanked in that game)... you could also point to most of the NE games too, though NE's "film study" could also explain those lol

I don't think this as meant as criticism. Young Ben R. was known to only do the bear-minimum of film study and relied mostly on his God-given talent. In the last 3 years or so we have seen him become more intellectual in his approach to the game and the results have been his best years so far. I think what coach Fitchner was trying to say is that film study is the one area where Ben still has plenty of room for improvement. To me its seems more like we was positive about Ben's work in the area and trying to encourage him to keep it going and build upon it.

I would say that over the years against soft opponents Manning has made it look ridiculously easy. I think against the better defenses in the biggest games he gets "gamed" into situations. They run something totally unexpected based upon what they know he will do against a certain look and it traps him. That is why I would bet my house on Manning against a soft opponent, but I'd take Ben against a better team.

Does this shock anyone? Ben has never been accused of being a film room junky. I think that's been the thing most people have criticized him for.
