I know a lot of you were expecting the high flying offense to click immediately, and destroy the lowly Browns. I know I was. But 2 things were certain. The Browns defense is much improved, and the Steelers offense needs to play a couple games together to get in sync.

The Killer B's were reduced to a single Bee. Brown was the man among boys today. 11 catches for 182 yards? Are you kidding me?? That's 71% of the passing yardage and 63% of the total offense. He got the contract and he came to play. You won the game ball by a large margin!

The defense is a squad to root for now, because they can win games for the Steelers now. 7 sacks, 57 yards rushing and 180 net yards passing! It is the first game with this defense, and they are already showing dominance on D.

The penalties were egregious for the Steelers, but it is September. I can live with mistakes in September, as long as we don't have games like this in November/December. They will improve on penalties each week until October. That is a trend for Tomlin's teams.

The Browns never had the ball with a chance to win the game. You may fret when they scored a TD and 2pt conversion to make the game close, but they never had the ball after that with a chance to take the lead. They kicked off from mid field, which is a tactical mistake. If you on-side from this spot, you are still defending the ball on the opponent's side of the field. It may have not have been recovered, but it was the only chance the Browns would have had to win the game.

The Steelers got the ball with 3:30 to go in the game, and could win the game on offense with a couple first downs. The run by Bell with over 2min to go was a thing of beauty. He could have bounced it outside for big yardage, but he could have been pushed out of bounds, stopping the clock before the 2 minute warning. Instead he turned upfield after the first down. The tackle happened in bounds and the clock ran to the 2 minute warning. Game over, kneel down. Might not have been a great game for Bell, but he made the right play at the end of the game to assure the win, and that's good enough for me!

A couple points from the game.

TJ Watt is fun to watch. He's in the plays getting pressure, stopping the run, defending passes and finished with 1 INT and 2 sacks. That is AFC defender of the week worthy numbers. Keep your eye out to see if he gets it.

Chickillo had 2 sacks as well. He's improving from year to year and gave a great effort today.

The rest of the sacks were rounded out by Triple H. Heyward, Hargrave, and newly acquired Haden all got sacks today as well!

Want to see the coolest part of the punt block? Watch Rosie Nix run into the endzone and turn around to start marking Browns players. He's the reason why the recovery was uncontested!

JuJu may not have had any catches in his NFL debut, but he did have a nice rundown and tackle on the interception. He's a baller. The plays will come.

Add your points as well. I'm happy to be a game up on the Pats!

They'll be humming like a well oiled machine by the first week of October if disaster doesn't strike before then.

Not sure if the D can win games for us just yet. The Gay/Hilton combo is a weakness until they prove they aren't. Vince is still a liability in coverage. I like the potential. But a lot of work to be done on both sides of the ball. But with a few rusty and a lot of new faces. Some of this should be expected.

The Browns also were playing together all preseason, the Steelers not so much. Young teams trying to establish something play their guys a lot in the preseason. Sometimes it works out for them. Think the '92 Steelers.

I do wish the Steelers would play a little more of their starters in the preseason, although nothing they can do about Bell. I know why they don't, but I think the early part of the year is going to look like this.

I do wonder if Bryant will ever be to what he was. I know it is early, but that's a long time to be away from football.

Why the heck don't the Steelers throw any deep ins, slants or posts? I mean the 12-15 yard variety. So much seems to be to the sidelines.

You're right. Vince is a big step down in pass coverage from Timmons. There is something I just really like about Matakevich when he's on the field. He may be the answer, but it will take time. The dime, I'd like to see Wilcox and Hilton instead of Hilton and Gay. I can't wait for Hilton to start as well. He's showing me a bit more this season.

Bell looked like crap. That will change. Why does he dance so much and not just run through the holes?

Bryant didn't have a great game, he will pick it up. That would have been a catch/TD if the Browns player didn't make one hell of a pass break up to deflect it away.

TJ Watt and his Watt Waddle was impressive.

JuJu has been working with Hines Ward and his aggressive style shows. He has to work on controlling his hands, and I'm sure he will.

There are a lot of positives, for the first take NOTE, WE WON.. A second note is Bell actually showed signs of rust falling off as the game progressed. His spin / tippy toe / dicipated somewhat as the game got latter and later. Thirdly, TJ WATT is all I need to say. Joe Haden / Hargrove and a few others. Hardly a disappointment as some here would make you feel. When was thew LAST time we had a special teams score???? Seem like it's been awhile and I glad for today's score. HALF FULL is my optimism !!!!!!!!!

Salute the nation

Big Ben played all of two series the entire preseason. I think that is why they threw wr screens and short outs to start the game. Along with Browns DB playing deep, just seemed obvious the offense wasn't comfortable with passes thrown beyond 5 yards from LOS, until it was necessary.

I'm not necessarily worried about Bell and Bryant getting up to speed, but it's the crap plays/formations.
Why do we start every road game with 23 wr screens? Why must we empty the backfield on 3rd and short?
On D I heard reporters all training camp saying Williams would come off on passing downs, but he was out there a ton on passing downs.
Again the 2DLinemen on short yardage, can anyone give a legitimate reason why they love this formation so much?
