More $$ available to go 2nd tier shopping

So what does the cap space look like now? Enough to sign anyone of decent value?

Glad you guys appreciate a great player by their cap hit v their play.

I like his play but it's prime money on a non prime position. If you invest that money somewhere else it might be more useful, don't you think?

kicking it down the road........

I think protecting our franchise QB with the best possible OL is more important than overpaying for other positions. Our offense isn't **** without an OL to protect Ben. We are deficient at the other skill positions not due to a lack of money, but because our draft picks have not worked out the best for us.

you can get a very good 6M a year Center and invest 10 M on a LT, move Beachum to LG and voilá. Better LIne protecting Ben

look at the anchors of this team: Dawson, Hartings, Webster and now Pouncey. It is a very important position. He's not flashy or does anything stupid on the field, so he is worth the cash. Not to mention, he is regarded as one of the best of his position. He has the Pro Bowls to prove it.

We don't work that way. This isn't EA sports Madden football. We can DRAFT a starting LT at 1.22 this year and let Beachum walk after this season and then we have a cheap LT for 4-5 years instead of splurging in UFA. The problem with this we drafted Adams & Gilbert and Adams is a turnstile. Neither player worked at LT. Beachum is serviceable but he isn't a prototypical LT. Will be interesting to see what the FO does with this 1st round pick. Lots of options out there. They could also draft a future starting LG at 1.22 and let Foster walk after this season.

I know this isn't madden but paying a mega contract to a Center isn't a good investment. That's all I meant

we have a lot of mega contracts on this team, hence the cap Hell we are in. lol. Having a solid center, I feel, is as important as a solid nose tackle. They are the foundations of your line and team.

What a great problem to have, we have an All-Pro player and you're bitching about what he's being paid. Would you rather we have a scrub like Sean Mahan in there at Center for peanuts and have NTs clear a path for LBs to kill our QB?

Remember when Ben is gone, we lose our best shot at winning another trophy. Maybe we get lucky and find another QB right away who can win Super Bowls, but I find that highly unlikely given the lack of legit franchise QBs in the market.

We need to protect Ben at all costs. This also opens up running lanes for Le'Veon Bell to have standout seasons. Amazing how soon people forget how having a ****** OL was for our offense.

Biggest issue with our team and lack of depth is the fact that we've had several high round draft picks wash out or leave for other teams. Focus on that and not how much money so and so gets paid.

now I'm bitching? You haven't seen bitching around here apparently...

After restructure, what is our cap at now?

No I typically don't read the bitchfests around here. Complaining about a guy making $10M because you don't approve of that position being paid well is bitching to me. Would rather us pay a guy like Pouncey who performs than pay a guy like Worilds who has no heart.

With a now 7 mil in cap space available where to spend it. There's nothing really left in F/A as far as OLB other than Orapko, Morgan and Sheard but I believe Orapko and Morgan have scheduled visits elsewhere. I've had the feeling all along though that Sheard would be there guy and wouldn't be surprised if he's scheduled soon for a Steeler visit. Shouldn't cost a whole lot either so they may have their sights set on a CB as well. Not sure though who that could be.

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth around here when they sign someone along the lines of Ayers or Acho. Second tier, young, some starting experience. Check, Check, Check ... and will come cheaper than the others ... Check.

In 2016 the combination of Brown, Timmons and Pouncey are going to count $34.4 million on our cap.

That's a lot of money wrapped up in ILB and C, which are not traditionally high-cost positions.
