So we are again short on top end wrs...

Now I admit that this could be intentional... that Artur smith uses two TE sets enough that wr2 is an afterthought... but with how that worked out last year, coupled with the question of what would happen if metcalf went down long term, one suspects another will be added by opening day

Here are the current rumors

( The UFAs)
1. Amari Cooper- Cooper is probably the best receiving option left on the market... he is only going to be 31.... and after leaving cleveland his stats rebounded enough to say he has stuff left in the tank... but dude has never been a good runblocker, so it is doubtful this staff will look at him
2. Keenan Allen- Dude is likely done... he is 33, and while he did have over 700 yards receiving last season, some of his advanced stats were career lows and he clearly lost a step. He has been a slightly above average runblocker.. so that wont hurt him here...

3. Gabe Davis- this Freshly cut 25 and soon to be 26 yr old WR isnt typically a 2 type wr... he is a steady, solid number 3 coming off of a very bad season. You sign this kind of guy as depth if you really think Wilson or CA3 will take a huge step forward or Woods has anything left in the tank...

The trade theories

1. Allen Lazard- a meh receiver but one of tge better runblockers in the league. Elliot just shittalked him on social media and he has alluded he isnt going anywhere...

2. Brandon Aiyuk- ( yeah again🤦🏻‍♂️) Speculation the 9rs are having buyers remorse having overpaid him is out there... there are rumors he is available... his value has dipped significantly because of the injury last year so he may move for a 4th or 5th... he is a top tier runblocker... and an above average wr... but he is coming off an injury and overpaid

3. Tyreek Hill- hill will be 31 this year... He is the 5'10"ish small speedster mold Tomlin loves, but in the age wgere he could drop off at any time. He has some scandals in his history. He is ok Runblocking these days... he likely would be the most expensive add on this list.

4 Romeo Doubs.. a green bay roleplayer that Rodgers likes... he also is an above average run blocker..

So what Options do yinz like? Which ones have I missed?

Also I cannot stress enough that Runblocking for the outside wrs is super important to this current steelers Staff...

Over the past few years the WRs they have either signed or kicked the tires on in a significant manner have all been upper tier runblockers...

So when guys like Diggs or Cooper were on the market... there wasnt much in the way of the steelers interest, but Aiyuk and Kupp and ultimately Metcalf... these guys all had lots of smoke about the steelers interest...

And in free agency... Allen Robinson a couple years back... Van Jefferson last year... Woods this year...

I mean Robert Woods hasn't topped 550 yards receiving since 2021... he exists in the NFL as a 33 year old because he is an EXCELLENT runblocker...

The two starting Wrs we traded the past two seasons both had fine grades as Receivers... both were inattentive in runblocking...

Option 2 for Art Nutting

Let 9ers pay the bonus and if they can get him for a 4-5th it’s a net gain in draft asset from the GP move with someone else shelling out the bonus money…it’s a win-win-lose

Win- someone else paying the bonus freight
Win- draft capital
Lose- talent level of the roster (this one isn’t really a priority though)

I hear he’s coming ANY DAY NOW!!!
Day 375 BA watch…and counting🤣

Really though, if he is gonna be healthy, that is a pretty physical wr unit, at least the top 2. You don't typically associate physical with wrs, but you would with that. I'd love to see a hardnosed, physical offense again.

I did not want Aiyuk in the first place at least for the $$ that was being thrown around. If SF can eat alot of his salary then maybe. Cooper might be OK, but not sure if he is a #2 anymore. Other ones i would pass on especially tyreek hill. He has off field issues and seems to always make a comment or 2 about whatever team he is on. I think he could turn into a cancer here with the way our offense malfunctions. The rest of the guys are more like role player types and don't seem to be much of an upgrade.

I would go Cooper because they need a reliable pass catcher opposite DK. You have Woods you can sub in if you are leaning in running more against a weak run D. If you want to pass more you want to have that option…

Don't trade for anyone unless it costs at most a 5th round pick. Trading for someone now makes little sense based on their moves recently. Just ride with what you have and see what you can get in the draft next year. Tomlin (and Kahn) put them in this position so let them deal with what they have - Rudolph, DK, and no WR2 for the 2nd year in a row. Grab a free agent. Keenan Allen still has a little left in the tank. He isn't a WR1 anymore but can be a WR2. Gabe Davis, I guess. He had an injury year this past year so his numbers showed nothing but he could be a WR2/WR3 type guy.

Aiyuk is an absolute NO! Doubs or maybe Lazard for a conditional 6th that could turn into a 5th. And, that's all you really have ou there. Don't try and get a guy off the cut pile heading into the season as they will take weeks to see the field. Tomlin seems to not like to let guys play who are "jumping on a moving train".

ADD in that the Wilson kid could actually flourish this being his 2nd year. I know that is still a question mark, but yet still a possibility.

CA3 isn’t a 3rd, but the Tomlin will keep him there…………. Unless the Wilson can beat him out, which is my hope.

I wonder if BA is going to go into the HOF as A Steeler

I think Arians will go in as a Cardinal or buccaneer,…………. OH wait…..

you’re talking about a player that’s not on the roster….YET

I’m going with Amari Cooper. He’s solid and still relatively young.
Keep your draft picks, no trades. We don’t need Rodgers and his circus with Allen Lizzard.
Let’s go with Mason and look towards the future.
Enough of this nonsense trying to keep a meaningless record alive. The nation does not give a **** about non losing seasons. Finishing in the mucky middle every year and getting blown out if we make the playoffs has no value. All it does is feed this ridiculous narrative of non losing seasons like it has value.

Doubs could become a long-term option as a #2. He has size and speed, is physical and is young at maybe 23?

If Aiyuk becomes a target yet again and doesnt pay off... he threatens to take a spot on the Pittsburgh sports " Rumored transactions that never actually happen" hall of fame ....

That infamous club includes such doozies as
- Dan Marino coming to the Steelers
- Mario Lemieux going to the Canadians
- Ben being traded around the 2009-2011 seasons
- the ever-present Malkin trade rumors for the last two decades
- and, of course, the series of #Jagrwatch's throughout the years...

Of course should Rodgers not end up here, he may have a place there too .... this is at least the third time he has been rumored to be a Pittsburgh Possibility...

🤣🤣🤣🤣

The saddest part is the WR talk is 100% irrelevant unless they sign Aaron. If that falls through The Steelers are the laughing stock of the NFL.

A-Aron going to be our salvation? Just like Russ was last season I guess.

The thing that worries me the most with the WR and QB situation is if Rodgers backs out and the Steelers trade for Cousins. Now, that would be the dumbest move they could make.

As dumb as move as that would be, NOTHING with this team / coaching staff / FO / Owner… would surprise me.

unless the Clowns cut Pickett and we resign him.

Like that 5th we burned for a Mike Williams who produced a GW TD in his 1st game & was never heard from or seen again ?
