Question...

At 7:48 of the 3rd quarter, Timmons is flagged for a personal foul (late hit) after Bolden made the catch at the SF 34-yard line. Cockrell actually makes the tackle but pulls Bolden down on top of himself... Bolden NEVER touches the ground. It is still a live play while Timmons comes in and hits Bolden. This gave SF an automatic 1st down rather than a 3rd and 4. Although this drive ultimately led to no points because the Steelers Defense stopped the 49er's on the 1-yard line... my question remains. Is there some new rule in place that I missed?

Did I miss something? Or was it just a wussy call made to protect Bolden?

I understand it means nothing in the grand scheme. There were several strange calls made in this game.

Maybe the refs thought Boldin was down and Timmons was piling on....late. the refs don't always see what actually happens.

Yeah that call was really bad. The refs were atrocious yesterday.

If someone finds the clip, I think Bolden came down on top of Timmons.

He was not down. But I think Timmons threw a forearm close to the head, so there's the call.

That's it. They are not going to let you lead with a forearm anymore. At first I though it was bogus, but then they showed a replay that clearly showed Timmons went in with a forearm, which is why Boldin got angry.

Boldin is a former Rat. He should expect the forearm against us!

There is a lawsuit a brewin over the defensive fines... the rules are slanted so that offensive players who initiate contact with their own heads even to defensive players are never fined... and sometimes the defensive players are... its totally unavoidable at times and it really isnt fair to the defensive guys.

and there were 2 questionable PF in this game, the one where he hit him from behind with his forearm but not in the head and the wr's head bounced off of another defensive player coming in low, and the late hit one... niether should have been called. In the first case the guy was established as a runner and still in bounds and not down... the second the guy was bounced into the second defensive players helmet... he never initiated it. The refs were just real bad all game

Imagine that, the refs, not always seeing what happens................ Explains a lot of things...............LOL

Salute the nation

I also thought the hit was a leftover from the Ravens/Steeler battles. I didn't mind Timmons knocking snot out of Bolden...good hit!!!!!

Agree that Boldin was not down. However, Timmons did give an elbow towards his head and that is a no-no.

What is killing me are the stupid helmet-to-helmet calls, like the one on Shazier on the 49ers TE, where the offensive guy lowers his head. What the @#$% is the defensive player supposed to do? Ole the guy?

The refs were terrible in the game.

The refs were terrible in the game.

I will repeat what I have said for years ... referees try to keep games interesting. If one team seems to be running away with the contest, expect holding calls on that team's offense, favorable spots for the team trailing, etc. It is the nature of the beast - close games get more viewers, more viewers = more money for the NFL.

In addition to the Personal foul calls.. did refs do away with bringing the chains out and marking off first downs? There is no way 49ers got the first down on that one drive near our goal line. During the Patriots game we also got another terrible spotting of the ball and once again the chains were not utilized at all. Anymore, lazy and incompetent officiating is what I expect from the league week in and week out.

He took an aggressive swipe at him. The contact was minimal and he was on top of a body and not down. It was one of probably 3-4 bad calls yesterday.

Not just in our game, but in many others yesterday there are a lot of guys taking shots to their knees. Direct result of the helmet to helmet penelties. I'd be willing to bet most guys would rather get hit high than in the knees. That can be a career ender.

I thought GB was going to get robbed on one. Flag was thrown, but picked up since the "receiver had become a runner" at that point.

Ben took a hit to the head, looked inadvertent but that doesn't matter, on a questionably late hit when he threw incomplete on 3rd down from the end zone.......Armstead or someone? No laundry......try that chit with bawdy.

Glad to see Timmons playing all the way through the whistle.

BOLden was still not down yet & with the position of his body how was Timmons supposed to hit him?
With his feet first?

He popped Bolden & he didn't like it. It's ok when he is dishing it out but didn't like it when he got lit up.

I liked the hit. So what the penalty.. playing all the way through the whistle saved a big first down by Blake
Touchdown by Allen I think. Can't remember who knocked that ball out in end zone.

Anyway we needed some nastiness back on this team. Good to see.

Mitchell made his presence known, Allen looked really engaged.

Nice to see those two have a pulse and get upfield and make some plays.

Guess they didn't Like what they heard for ten days. Good. Now keep it up !!!!
