He says it's being reported that Brown wants 16 million per, I didn't hear who reported it though.
Thoughts?

2 much for any receiver ever. Receiver's touch the ball 5-12 times per game. Spend that money on a olb or Dlineman that is going to be in on every defensive snap.

I look at this way....

and from past experience from being a Steeler fan since 1970.....

Its been real 84...

Madden's usually pretty accurate. He said last year that Bell was going to get suspended and that Bell was not telling the truth when denying it earlier in the year.

A agent might say one thing the Steelers another, they negotiate and it becomes yet another.

Not worried...........something will get worked out.

I don't doubt that Brown wants $16 million per. The question is, "How much is he willing to take to play?"

The fact that I want a salary of $200,000 does not mean that I am going to turn down a salary of $150,000.

If that is indeed true then start to look for trading partners. Too much for AB and really will not allow us to address other needs in FA. I was afraid of this. I hope this is not true but if it is it further solidifies that it's all about AB.

What he wants is only important someone else is willing to give it to him. The market is the market. If he can get $16mil/yr from another team, then you can't be mad.

Also, if Dez and D. Thomas are worth $14mil, then AB is also worth $14mil. The question is: can the Steelers afford that?

I would really hate to see him go. Dez and Thomas resigned with their original teams, but who was the last free agent WR to switch teams for a huge contract and actually produce equal or better numbers? Is the difference between $14mil and $16mil worth falling out of the top WR conversation?

I mean I don't see where this is some revelation. As Stoney said Dez and Demarious got 14 mil per so obviously AB wants a little more. He's gonna get a five year extension worth 75 million. I've already accepted it. Just think of it as one million more added to the last few when he's been grossly underpaid and didn't say a word.

I guess you can look at it a couple of ways Tom.

Either he gets a huge salary and stays, or he doesn't and he leaves and the Steelers finish 2nd or 3rd at best in the division. It's pretty simple.

Bell gets hurt by week 14 at the latest. They have nothing better than James at Tight End. And I think James is pretty good, but let's be honest. He's average. Bryant, even if he does come back is a #2 at best. He doesn't have the talent to be a number 1. He just doesn't. We look at him through rose colored glasses, but if you truly look at his production, he's not that spectacular and if he's double-covered he's not going to do much at all.

That leaves us with (again) Eli "#3 talent" Rogers. Cobi "Whoops" Hamilton and (I think I may have to kill myself) Sammie "**** my fingers hurt" Coates.

Now if we're lucky, Wheaton might come back. He's a true #2, but he's not a spectacular #2, just a serviceable guy who can take some pressure off Bryant if he's even on the field.

So, we went from what we hoped was going to be a lights out receiving corps in 2016 to a steaming pile of hot garbage in 2017.

Our running back situation starts out great - but if Williams doesn't resign, after Bell has his predictable injury due to Haley running the **** out of him, we'd be down to Toussaint or newly signed guy or rookie flavor of the season.

That leaves Ben desperately trying to make **** happen AGAIN and getting frustrated by receivers running backwards in jello 7 out of 10 routes.

All of that could be changed if Brown stays and Bryant, a truly valuable #2 is on the team and Wheaton is resigned and is suddenly an extremely talented option at #3 and we have a really viable #4 with Rogers. Then we can simply forget to give Coates a plane ticket after a pre-season game somewhere on the west-coast and pretend it was a clerical error.

We'll still have the problem with Bell. Haley can't help himself. But hopefully he'll be so enamored of his new receiving toy that he'll use Bryant enough that Bell may just survive the season. Maybe...

Sounds right to me

That's where the power of negotiation comes in. Is AB worth 16mill, my answer is no. Is he willing to take 13 with big guaranteed money?? That is the question. Remember he had disappeared in a few games this year and shown poor decision / vision making choices. Try and sign him but maybe a 3year deal?? Possibly recoupable moneys if he falls out of team first mode or something..........?

AB and the Steelers can and will work something out. 16 mill is a lot for a receiver, but I'm sure the Steelers can negotiate and have both sides happy. AB will be a Steeler and will mature in attitude and as a player, his body of work is never questioned

I agree as to him being a VERY hard worker and we as fans must realize we only see what the media feeds us. AB will mature as we'd hope. Give him a legitimate #2 and his disappearing act will go away. Imagine how tough we can be if MB actually shows up with a "down to earth" attitude and a legitimate TE that stretches. Couple all this with a 1st round move up to 1.11 and stud OLB.......................yoiiikkkeeessseess !!!!!

Nothing less than SB appearance will do.

doesnt he still have a year left on his contract?

Yup, he has zero leverage. If he was a FA, yup, he could get 16M. Steelers have him by the short hairs. Sure he can hold out, but damn would that hurt his market value if he pulled an 8wk holdout. Being under contract, the Steelers will probably settle between 13-14M. Otherwise, trade him for multiple firsts. I'd take that.

I said before the number is 5-years, $75 million and I'm not backing off that at this point. If it's under that, the Steelers won the negotiation battle. If it's above, Brown won. Obviously the guarantees are the most important part, but I think when whatever you hear as "announced" that should be your benchmark.

Yep...That is what was said when Wallace left also....

It wouldn't be the first or last time the Steelers made one of their players one of, if not the highest paid players in the league.

I have no desire to see AB traded,I tell yinz it would take more than two firsts. It would take a Ricky Williams type trade.

If the negotiation doesn't go well, I see possibly the STEELERS trading him. Allthough in the past the STEELERS have been slow in this regards of trading, I think that would be a distinct possibility. I thin k the front office is a little more prepared as to Antonioism has taxed their patience to a degree. They definately want to keep him but are also prepared to stand ground.

I think that's how most fans view the situation so hopefully the front office does too. AB and Ben have uncanny chemistry, does AB put up those same numbers in say Philadelphia or Miami with average QBs? It's all about QB chemistry for WRs, just ask Manny Sanders or even Mike Wallace for that matter.

I think AB knows that and so does the front office so it gives the Steelers some leverage. And then there's the Facebook live stuff and "premadona" label he seems to have gotten recently that makes you not miss him as much if he did happen to leave.

Also, how much does AB coming back factor into Ben's decision on early retirement? You would think he would want his favorite target there for the remainder of his career. If AB leaves after this year, would that mean Ben would too?

Or if we know Ben wants to leave after this season, why not try to get multiple firsts for AB and put yourself in the best position for both of their replacements?

He has tons of leverage. He's on the books for 13.75 mil even though he's only gonna make 4.5 plus we have no other wide receivers..
