It always struck me as strange that the NFL chooses to give an extra day off to 2 of the teams heading into the Championship games. The Conf Champ games are both always on Sunday, but the division games are Sat and Sun. They play 1 AFC and 1 NFC on each day. This means that every year the teams that play Sat get an extra day off.

It must be random though right? They'd never give a team that consistent advantage would they? I'm sure if somebody looked into the playoff dates of the Pats since Brady has been QB, they'd find that it was about half and half.

Including this year, the pats have made the playoffs 15 times since 2001, Brady's first season as starter. Only 3 times have they had to play in the wildcard round, never making the SB without a bye week. They lost the WC once and played in the division round 14 times.

Surely, one would find they got the Saturday game (and the extra say off) about 7 times.

Nope.

The Pats have had the Saturday division game 10 times out of 14. And to make it worse, they have had the Saturday game 5 years in a row.

It's probably not an advantage you say? OK what is the Pats record the next week in the AFC Champ game when they play Sat vs Sun

Sunday 1-2 in AFCC and 1 loss in the Div game
Saturday 6-3 in AFCC and 1 loss in the Div game with this year pending

Just for comparison, in the same time period since 2001, the steelers have played in the division round 9 times. How many times have the steelers had the Saturday game and the extra day off?

Twice

But No, the league doesn't favor the Pats at all.

I thought the #1 seed in each conference always got the Saturday Divisional Round game. Kind of another reward for being the #1 seed.

I always thought it had to do with who the networks wanted in those respective slots. I would've really liked this weekend to be the Saturday night game, but it's not like the Steelers haven't had a Saturday playoff game before.

The year we lost to Green Bay we played Saturday I think at 430 to the Ravens and the pats played the late game Sunday and lost to the Jets.....

Pats get saturday night game because of money. It is the big money time slot. Does Kraft have any influence over that. I would say yes. Is this more evidence of favoratism towards the Pats? I would say yes. Does it suggest "the fix is in"? I would say yes.

To me it's less about the extra day off and more about putting them in a position to be focused on scouting the game that will determine their opponent. Sure they don't know who will win, but they already have their win in the bag and can focus exclusively on preparation efforts. Their opponent wont be able to do that until Monday.

Not sure how big of a factor that is, but could easily be perceived as an advantage.

Lol herrrre we Gooooo!

Weeeeeeee!!!

ARGUE with those numbers, ...........YOU can't

It definately shows a favoritism. Coincidence is once maybe twice,................... FACT
As subtle as it may be it is still another cog in the + favore of the CHEATRIOTS. Explain to me how it makes absolutely no difference in anything. That extra day rest / preperation / checking ball psi... Makes absolutely no difference and if that was the case than why isn't it a 50/50 or closer to than than as far apart as it is??? Believe me I'm looking for a relevant explaination as I don't see one. I would like to see if it is a #1 seating thingy or something to that effect???

Stop sucking your thumb and trembling at the word "patriots", you're a grown man for Godsake. It has to do with seeding more than anything else

I've said this many times, the Pats and CBS have been in bed together for most of their "dynasty". The head of CBS and Kraft are very good pals and they have deals together. When the Pats win, so does CBS.

Y know, Drink ol' pal, I was going to be disappointed that you didn't include size 7 bolded font in your post, or throw in a "**** the cheatriots," but I can't get past your avatar to be disappointed. On the other hand, get yourself together.

Cope, do you know if it is because of the #1 seed???

Not positive if it's this way every year. I only know when I was pissed off about it 2 weeks ago when the schedule was set, I realized both the Eagles and Pats got the benefit, so it calmed me down a bit since they were both 1 seeds and deserve it.

It's not because of the #1 seed. In the 2013-14 season and the 2015-16 season, the Patriots were the #2 seed. They played the Saturday game both years.

I believe CBS built a CBS themed bar/restaurant at the pats stadium.

*gasp* congress must know about this at once!! This patriot favoritism cannot persist!!!!!

I def agree that this is intentional and meant to give them an advantage. I also believe that they do many things behind closed doors which are meant to give them small incremental advantages, which ultimately build to substantial advantages on the field.

All that being said, I'd rather just stop talking about it and see the team go out there, leave absolutely no doubt whatsoever, and just wax these fools once and for all so we can just put it to bed

If this is such a big deal, then change the format. Make Satuday games the NFC games and Sunday the AFC games one year, and the next year switch them. Keep both conferences on the same day. Easy peezy.

I've always thought this too. Everything about the NFL regular season schedule is so systematic. They should adopt an objective system for scheduling the playoffs too. But I'm sure the networks have them by the balls on this.

'15 wasn't Denver the 1? Pretty sure they were.

I think the idea of 1 playing Sat is a new standard. Don't know when it started.

I do think there was a distinct disadvantage last year to NE getting sat, because the Steeler game went from 1 to the 8:30 slot due to an ice storm. This had the Steelers winning at 11:30-12pm halfway across the US and prob arriving in the burg at 5-6 am.
