That coin-toss incident for overtime in NY - the Patriots winning the toss and choosing to kick off - is very fishy. I'm not buying for a second that a Belichick-coached team would make that mistake.

Matthew Slater, who made the call, did a pretty good acting job to look upset. But I think he knew exactly what he was doing. I'd read several articles the past few days that the Patriots wanted to drop one of their last two games to get a more favorable matchup in the playoffs.

On CBS' postgame show, one of the guys said something to the effect that, "Well, the Patriots are used to winning the (opening) coin toss, and deferring to the second half.

But Cowher seemed skeptical. He pointed out that they were in an overtime game just three weeks ago (vs. Denver). He implied they knew what they were doing.

I saw the replay, and it does look fishy to high heaven. I heard a patriot say "we'll kick", as the camera was pointing to the ground at the coin, then when the camera comes up, the ref. confirms that they said they'll kick and then the patriots act like "WTF?". Bizarre at the least, fixed more likely.

waaaaaaaaaaaa. its called before the toss and refs stick to that decision after the bettis incident learn the rules

When I saw the list of players NE deactivated, I knew they would half-*** it today. Other than not playing Garoppolo, they treated it like an exhibition game.

They're gearing up for the playoffs. I don't remember all the machinations. But I read in several places that another loss would enhance their playoff situation.

You're missing the point: No one is questioning that Slater called heads, and the coin landed heads.

The issue is that when the Patriots won the toss, they elected to kick off. You never do that in OT.

The PAT closest to the REF said we will kick it and then walked away......The other PAT was not in on it......

they said before the toss they were kicking off thats what you missed and thats what the ref went with. those are the facts. you heard after the toss that doesn't count after the bettis incident learn the rules

Yeah and Andy Dalton broke his thumb so the bengals could clinch the afcn while sitting in a Denver hotel.

I really doubt Patriots would rather play a team they beat regularly(us) rather than a team who seems to beat them at least 1 time a year(Jets)

Are you suggesting that the Patriots were trying to duck the Steelers by losing today? Just don't buy it.

Yea I am sure Bellicheat and Brady were shaking in their shoes at the thought of playing the Steelers since they have only lost to us what.... ONE time in the last 10 years I think?

Almost makes you jealous to think about what that franchise has become doesn't it? All the cheating aside they are still WAY better then we are the last 15 years...

It isn't even close.

Didn't see the coin toss, but if they wanted lose they had 60 minutes of regulation to make it happen. Maybe they needed to kick some Fan Duel ***.

I have to agree with this sadly ^^^

As much as you follow strategy or coaching. Players still have to go out and execute the play. Brady can throw a damn good ball and makes smart decisions when nothing is given to him

None of it would have mattered if the sorry *** steelers took care of business today.

So the pats****, who haven't clinched home field throughout the playoffs, threw a game because they knew the rats were going to beat the Steelers and they want the Steelers out so bad they'd risk not getting home field? What a bunch of ****.

Not duck the Steelers per se. But to get a favorable first round match up. My opinion

Yes.

The Steelers played them fairly close to open the season, and are much better now.

Or so we - and they - thought...

Divisional opponents are always tough in the playoffs, especially a team like the Jets against the Patriots. Meanwhile, Brady and Belichick OWN the Steelers--especially in the playoffs--and would get to match up against one of the worst secondaries in the league as well as a defense with minimal pass rush. That seems like a team they want in the playoffs.

The idea that the Pats would be scared of the Steelers being in the playoffs is comical.
