Not just us but many, many teams passed on this guy. There has to be something behind it. I really like our pick of Watt but hope we as fans don't lose our minds watching Foster tear up the league.

They were talking about him having an injury that popped up. Apparently it was pretty serious for him to drop out of the 1st.

Watt has injury concerns, too. In both knees.

Fans wanted the team to get rid of Bell and Bryant because of failed drug tests, but then complain when they don't draft a guy who failed a drug test. I don't understand that logic.

Not just one. He failed one at the combine and it has come out he failed them at Alabama.

Really? The something behind it was his inability to stay away from drugs and injury concerns. The biggest interview in his life up to this point and couldn't stay away from weed long enough to keep clean. The guy probably won't even last three years. I hope he proves me wrong because I love to see guys exceed expectations but wouldn't draft the guy in the 3rd round if I was the Steelers.

High risk, high reward. They chose to take something with less risk. We won't be the only ones upset if he pans out. Look at Conley as well dropping to 24.

Watt has injury concerns, too. In both knees.

Watt hasn't had an issue in 2 seasons. Foster was sent back to Indy for a medical recheck on his shoulder (rotator cuff, same as McKinley). After Indy, word is, he may need a second surgery. Could be out 4-6 months if that happens.

Add in the Indy issue. Albert Breer stated this: "Reuben Foster had some drug history at Alabama. Teams know. It wasn't considered a big deal before combine test. Now, it takes on a different context."

So, current injury, future surgery possible, in the substance abuse program, history of drug use, popped off at hospital worker, and rumors of liking the party scene in Alabama.

Lots of baggage.

See this is it. Teams know about the drug issues. But this is it. If the players can't stop for the combine now it's a issue. That means it's a problem not just a once in a while thing. It's a habit if you can't stop when you need too

Until they come here...Dupree, Shazier...to name a couple. I don't what it is with the bad luck we seem to get as far as injuries go.

Foster messed up the pre-draft process pretty darn badly. Will be interesting to see whether that shoulder issue takes a big chunk out of his rookie season. It says a lot that 29 teams passed on him before the Steelers did, including ones that took ILBs like Jarrad Davis from Florida.

Steelers didn't need to hit a grand slam with this pick, but they really couldn't afford to whiff on a guy with so much baggage. They got a guy at (arguably) their biggest position of need with A+ character and pretty damn impressive athleticism based on his combine performance. Sure he only started 14 games, but he was quite productive in that small sample. Another team paid a much, much higher price to take a QB with less starting experience...

We have enough drug problems, we need players that can play. Is Watt another wait and see draft pick is my problem.

James Harrison sent TJ Watt an instagram pick of Watt with a Steelers logo (like a trading card) and at the top, it says "Welcome to Pittsburgh". He added "Welcome to the family, @tjwatt42!"

That is the guy I want Watt to be around. Watt is already known as a serious worker. Harrison could make him so much stronger/better.

Exactly learning from his brother and Harrison can't get much better then that

It appears many NFL teams think Foster is going to need surgery to repair his rotator cuff. May not matter to the 49ers --- they won't win more than 3 games this year and the new coach and GM have 6-year contracts.

Watt has been praised for his "pro" preparation and workouts. He already has taken a NFL approach that many others will have to catch up to. How much that sets him apart from the rest of the class remains to be seen, but the work ethic is there. He has time and a lot of help from inside and outside the organization to build upon. The more I hear about him, the more I am good with the pick. Foster looks like he will be great in this league for the 9ers, but when? A lot of ifs and what-ifs surrounding him.

I'll tell you something else that sets Watt apart from Foster. Watt led all LBs in the Wonderlic with a score of 29. Foster scored a 9. Two years ago, Foster led the team in missed assignments. There is some thought that he will need to be yoked to another player to keep him aligned and what to do.

Missed assignments kill teams.

I was wrong on Foster...Watt was def the right move...

Teams think Reuben Foster needs more surgery

According to USA Today's Tom Pelissero, teams believe 49ers first-round ILB Reuben Foster will require a second shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.

He's already in the midst of recovering from the first one following Alabama's season, and coach Nick Saban, speaking after last night's first round, expressed frustration with Foster's decision to not consult Dr. James Andrews, instead going to a different doctor. Another NFL exec thinks Foster could be a serious problem off the field outside of Alabama, where he had people to "hold his hand." He won't get that in the NFL. While the Foster pick at 31 for the 49ers has widely been praised, there are an excess of red flags that could make it backfire.

TMC, you had me at Wonderlic.

I love that Harrison did that. With this kid's work ethic and James's crazy work routine, the sky is the limit. Pittsburgh was the absolute perfect place for Watt. He will learn under James and Joey and unlike Uncle Jarvis, will only get stronger and add bulk to an already long frame. I like this kids burst and power something Uncle Jarvis never had here.

Yeah I'm starting to agree this is the right pick also, initially I wanted Rueben because I knew he'd come in to start day 1 but Watt is definitely the better and safer pick.
