I said it in a post earlier, but I think it deserves its on thread.

It really reminds me of 2006. While we won in Indy over manning and actually played the most exciting game I ever witnessed. We went on to Denver and then to Detroit vs Seahawks.

The Denver and SB game. That same yuck feel. We couldn't pass. Ben struggled.

I felt the same thing last night.

Cincinatti lost two of their starting DB's during the game. We couldn't pass on them.

We were 2 for 13 on 3rd down conversions last night.

Ben was 20 for 36 attempts for 202 passing yards.

What was the problem? How do we undress the Bengals and Broncos in mid season, then come to the playoffs where we are also running effectively and play so poorly?

IMO the weather had some effect, but I don't have the breakdown but we ran a ton on first down, even after we established our run we rarely used a play fake and never on first down. It reminded me of the Baltimore game we took tjd run because they were giving it to us, but I don't like allowing the opponent to dictate us not using our weapons

The Steelers offense is in a rut right now. They peaked and went back down. Hopefully they are due again for another strong offensive showing. Especially now for the playoffs. This team can do it. I'm still unsure of the defense. Blake is still getting reps and burned every play

Defense gave up 16 points last night. This thread isn't about them. Manning will put up points. We must put up points. Maybe the "in a rut" reason is what it is. I just cant understand not being able to throw when we have the weapons we do, and the line is doing well, and they are short 2 starting DB's.

Every team goes in a rut for sometime. Luckily for the Steelers they hit the wall before the playoffs. At least in my opinion a team will be in a rut for a couple weeks or so and come back out. The Steelers will get hot again. Hopefully by next week. Depending on the status of AB. But Bryant, Wheaton can do the job. I think Ben is putting a lot of pressure on himself too. So maybe that has some part. As fans we can only speculate

Why is Manning going to put up points, because he's Manning(bullshit). he was a turnover machine before he got hurt. and one half doesn't change that for me. there offense line is horrible and the Defense doesn't have to worry about him running out of the pocket like they did with Brock. I don't know what is going to be the case with Ben. but the key to this game is going to be tackling . Manning is going to throw quick an often. so tackling is going to be key. if the the Offense doesn't turn it over, they have a chance. with or without Ben

we simply refused to test the secondary, just like last year... Tomlin/haley gets too conservative in the playoffs until he absolutely has to open it up... though unlike the Rats game last year, the weather dictated this was the move to make. Accurate deep balls were not happening in this game... the conspiracy theory is that Bens leg is still a bit off from the ravens game and that's why his footwork has been off for weeks, but I'm going to hope it was weather related.... running in that uneven downpour was the right gameplan

Ben will never be a QB that makes the defense pay for playing deep and just nickel and dining them all game
He is not a precision thrower in the red zone so scoring points consistently will always be a negative for him as it has his entire 12 year career. Great games and plays but never a consistent high scoring offense or TD thrower.

He was consistent for a 2 game stretch when he had back to back 6TD games! I'm hoping he waits until the AFCC game to start that run again!

Ben wasn't the problem yesterday. The play calling was terrible. Too many screens and short throws called. Too many runs in a row called then getting blitzed on third down obvious passing downs. We are a pass first team. When we are running on first and second down, that does not work, period. There were no long throws even attempted that I can remember in the entire game.

So, terrible play calling, WR's not getting open and you aren't going to have much of a passing game. We had opportunities to score but came away with FG's due to poor play calling.

Why Haley can't mix things up even if we get one or two good runs, for example, just baffles the mind. You do not keep running 4 or 5 times in a row and think it is going to continue to work. We are not built that way but he did that several times yesterday to kill drives.

That and, as I said during this game and many others, why the heck do we ever run a play with one WR in the game? I can't think of another team that ever does that yet Haley does it many times in every game. We should always have at least 2 WR's in the game and a TE. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!!!

He wins

that is good enough for me

people bitching on Ben SMH

this team wouldn't be in the playoffs without him

wouldn't won two SBs without him

been in three SBs without him

stupid!!!!!!

Ben has the option of changing the play if he thinks it is stupid. Hell, maybe some of those stupid plays were audibles.

For three quarters, I kept saying that Ben needed to take control of this game. He never did. I think there was something wrong with him. And yes, the weather played a role.

If you didn't notice, it rained all game yesterday. We're not going spread, no huddle in that weather.

Also, that playcalling was a huge factor in limiting turnovers.

Manning to put up points? How so. Didn't do it this year. Weather was a factor last night night in the second quarter on. I thought we would have come out slingin. Our only 1st possession TD's this year was against Cincy. Not sure why they didn't try to the same approach.

Shoot up Ben's shoulder and fire away. Let's go!

ok so no answers on our passing game other than,, the weather, play calling. And people thing manning sucks now.

I noticed it rained.

AJ McCarron noticed it rained too

I dont think you nor me nor anybody will get a clear cut answer on the passing game. My theory is the offense is having a hard time to get going at the moment and I'm sticking by that

We are a passing team. Yes, you always have at least 2 WR's and a TE on the field for every play. And, yes, Ben has 2 plays he can go with when he gets to the line. The called play and his audible. At times, I would assume he can go with something else but the game plan was obvious from the outset. Short screens and running. Sorry but that doesn't work for a pass first team even in the rain. Ben had no issues throwing in the rain. The WR's should have been able to get open easier in the rain but didn't.

Play calling was the number one factor for our poor offense and WR's getting open was number 2.

Ben's in a no win situation, he protects the ball and only throws for 220 no picks and a td he's in a slump. he trys to make plays and throws a couple picks he's a big dummy. WTF??

Exactly what is Ben supposed to do when his receivers are not getting open before he is running for his life, that pass rush last night was insane. add to the fact that his number one and number two pass catching running backs are not dressed.

I remember when 220 no picks and a TD were a monster game for a QB of this team. now if Ben doesn't put up three bills plus and a couple TD passes he's getting bashed. welcome to steeler nation.

Warrior, this was in no way an attack on ben and what he didn't do or did. Back in the day with the defense we HAD it was great numbers and we pounded football and ate the clock. Things changed.

Maybe you are correct that it was a combination of their pass rush and tight coverage. It was a far different game last time we played the bengals.

We need to abandon zone defense, play man and blitz the ever living **** out of Manning. Hit that mother ****** and make him throw some duck picks.

I'm hoping he starts next Sunday.

Man the fact is we made it to the next round.. It hasn't been beautiful but it can all turn around. Have faith
