Our best five rookies this pre-season in my opinion.

1 ) Thomas. Lead the team in tackles ( 25 ) , and had a play where he soloed a sack, which turned into a return score. Thomas was also solid in coverage as well, a major flaw on the Steelers at inside linebacker. Looked to be an asset on kick coverage as well.

2 ) Washington. He turns 50/50 passes into 90/10 conversations. A red zone threat. A bit of a one trick pony so far, but as a #3WR, we’ve got the mismatch card to play. Injures held him back a bit.

3 ) Edmunds. He made some big plays and gave up some plays. But most importantly he flashed big time talent.

4 ) Rudolph. 90.6 QB rating. 3 TD, 1 INT. 54.5% ( with a few drops ). Needs to do a better job avoiding sacks. Didn’t play with good talent around him often. Shined in some of the camp practices and flashed skills in some games.

5 ) Adeniyi. 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble. Could make the team as a situational pass rusher.

Honorable mention: Samules, Hooks, Patterson.

I think Ola had two forced fumbles. I'd way rather he stick to the roster over someone like Chickillo.

Coach I was going to mention your punter Matt Wile but forgot he wasn’t a rookie.

Wasn't Hooks with us last year? Or am I thinking of somebody else?

You might have been thinking of Captain Hook as in HOOKED on coaches new threads. WE can't seem to get enough of them................ this is a good one though,

Salute the nation

Hooks showed something as a pass rusher. I just wish we had a chance to see him with the 1st team. Big Dan is underwhelming. I would not rule out Hooks making this team. If he doesn't I want him on the practice squad.

I’ll add one more to the list whom I think had a nice camp. Chuks Okafor. Munchak has had good things to say about Chuks.

I think he was flagged twice. Did he give up a sack? The Steelers brought in a veteran tackle, so they aren't counting on Chucks to be the primary back up, or are they?

I liked Ola's effort and production vs the 3rd string players. But his role in the NFL is limited to pass rusher only.

He's too slow to play special teams, and too slow for coverage responsibilities at linebacker. He's way too small to play defensive end.

His best fit is on a base 4-3 team as a reserve pass rusher.

Chickillo like many veterans didn't seem to be all into to it, but he can play special teams, and is proven to be average vs. NFL players when called upon.

Chuks has plenty of potential and all of the physical attributes required for a tackle. Does he need work?Of course he does and who better to work with him than Munch.
Will he be a primary backup at the start of the season? Probably not but I can see it by mid season.

Yes he’s been flagged but so do the starters as well. He’s young and going to make mistakes at first just like the starting OL did when they started. Hell your all pro guard DeCastro in his rookie year took Pouncey out for ***** sake. Rookies **** up, even the first rounders. I think Chuks gave up a sack but it happens to the best of them.
I think he has to be considered a top rookie.

“Veteran tackle”?

What veteran tackle are you talking about? Harris who didn’t pass the conditioning test or Banner from USC who is a fringe PS guy?

“like many veterans didn’t seem to be all into it?”

I call BS.......name them.

Oh now he’s an average player......you were calling him to start over Dupree two years ago.

BTW, Ola had some snaps with 1s and 2s...he has still outplayed Chickillo on defense.

Yes the Steelers looked at veteran tackles, not for your health but because Chucks wasn't ready.

Its the pre-season, not all veterans are going all out. DUH. Okay you want a name. I'll pick one of our best Heyward did very little this pre-season. Just two tackles.

When Bud was hurt and a rookie. You omit too many details.

Look at your original response clueless....”they brought in a veteran tackle” Who did they bring in because “they” thought Chuks wasn’t ready?

Oh my God...you are an idiot. You think the effort of centerpiece starters in preseason are measured by how many snaps they are given? Well Ben should be cut, he hardly did anything this preseason. We know you want Pouncey gone, he hasn’t played either, so he should be cut as well. I’d quit worrying about my health and go check yours.

No...I haven’t omitted anything. You on numerous occasions pumped Chickillo to be a starter over Jones and Dupree. You’ve only recently mellowed because Watt was drafted.

Go back to your crayons....let the adults speak.

The Steelers didn't get an outside T because they drafted Chukes in the 3rd, and HE'S a STUD!!!!

Man, you're having a rough day Coach ;)
