Coaching Staff- Is a debacle. Tomlin seems clueless. He has no idea about when to be aggressive and when to take what is there. This was not a game to be going for two. Last week against the Ravens was just ridiculous game plan falling right into the hands of a weak opponent wanting to play a tight game. Butler, I don't know. They just aren't getting the turnovers they got last year. There is no pass rush. He has to shoulder some of the blame, but has few premium players to do much. I might be in the minority, but I think Haley is ****. His play calling is brutal. The calls inside the 10 after the PI on Hamilton. The toss on third and like 1 and 1/2, the inability to get someone like Coates to be a factor. They just have so many weapons and I know they got thirty last night, but they were unable to get a substantial lead when opportunities presented themselves. Plus the play calling seems at its best when they go no huddle, so that right there tells me a lot.
Defense- They just lack a certain amount of talent on defense which is why I give Butler a bit of a pass. It is a play here and there from this guy or that guy flashing. However, they don't force teams to overplay one or two guys in key situations like you see the good defenses requiring. That overplay creates opportunities to finish tight games when they present themselves. They still have no playmakers in the secondary. Guys get hands on the ball, but no one makes a play.
Football IQ- As much as Coach cool shades talks about above the neck football, they consistently never understand the position they are in. The two facemasks (one called) on that drive. But also Including Ben last night. I know the fake spike was great, but the other team has three timeouts and a kicker that was good at 55 or closer. There was time to drive and finish the game there. I know some will make argument and I do agree to some extent. However, you cannot tell me that you felt good about winning that game with this defense and the three timeouts, and the kicker. I was only praying for a turnover. Otherwise I felt they were screwed.
Special Teams- Big gash on a punt that should have been a fair catch, the team has minimal faith in its own kicker. The Cowboys knew they were good for 3 at about 52 and in. That is a big advantage.
So that is the way I see it: Coaching, Defense (particularly the lack of pass rush), idiot plays, Special teams

If you can't score a TD and turn over a lead to your defense with 42seconds left in the game then your offense should be the least of your worries. Arguing that a team scores too soon is just asinine to me. Take the points when you can get them. Kind of like extra points, but that is a whole other discussion.

Had the Steelers taken the 4 extra points during the game after their touchdowns it would have forced the Cowboys to play for TD to win the game and 42 seconds left. The Cowboys got within their excellent kickers range and had the option to run it which caught the Steelers in a blitz.....end of game. There was absolutely no reason for "being aggressive" against a 7-1 team until such time you needed to be aggressive with those calls.

Enough of the over-thinking. The Steelers win with tough physical play....not throwing a bomb on 3rd and one. Not leaving easy points when going for two is a significantly lower percentage to convert.

Lost in some of this is the fact that Dallas also would've more than likely taken the extra points instead of going for two the two times they did. And, on the last two tds, you're going for two to put yourself up by the field goal both times. You really have almost no choice in the matter. The only one I really question was after the second touchdown. Take the extra point and go up 13-3. However, is there any faith in Boswell? Talk about a massive regression. Believe me, I'm not defending the coaching, but what ******* plays are they running in their two point playbook? The Steelers were 20-26 in two pointers before yesterday. Sloppy all the way around.

The Steelers win with tough physical play....

The Steelers used to win with tough physical play, now we are about as tough as a filet mignon. The days of us imposing our will on anybody are long gone.

Might as well add injury prone players to the list. That and off the field issues.
