Joe Montana
Despite not living in the area for more than 40 years and playing the majority of his career on the West Coast, Montana still considers himself a Steelers fan.

“Everybody asks me if I am a 49ers fan or a Chiefs fan,” Montana said. “I watch both of them and like both of them, but I grew up a Steelers fan. Once you are a Steelers fan, it is hard to get that out of your blood. I am also a big (Ben) Roethlisberger fan. I really like Ben. He will be in that Hall of Fame someday.”

Joe is a might mighty smart man !

While it is pretty cool to read his response to that, I have a problem with Montanna after he came out and said all that stuff about "Rudy" and about how much of it was fabricated and how he didn't carried off the field or anything like that. I mean, coming from a guy who's a 4x super bowl champion, a hall of famer, arguably the greatest qb of all-time and not to mention living pretty comfortably in life, why do you have to crush the feel good story that is and what is also probably the only good thing going for Ruttiger? Come on, man!

So telling the truth is wrong?

I always liked Montana, and that's even after that ******* handed the Steelers that loss when he was in KC. I still remember that game, both me and my Dad saying "****, that is TOO MUCH TIME to give Montana to get down there, ****!" Sure enough, Joe drove down and got them the score to beat the Steelers. Dude was one of the best, if not THE best to play QB.

So, you have a problem with not believing a fabrication? I have more at issue with the guys that create the story and call it based on fact or even worse a documentary when the story goes well there were these guys and from there it is a fabrication. Fairy tales are one thing as is fantasy etc. but those things should not be trotted out in the realm of truth just to make a feel good story or to attempt to change the facts of reality.

I remember screaming at Eric Green doing the tomahawk chop the very same thing.....

I was 12 yrs old when Montana beat us in that wildard game. I had to go on a road trip to visit family immediately afterwards and I remember just stewing over the game that entire 4 hr trip. We HAD that game!

Most painful playoff loss for me, bar none, is San Diego the following season. I was pretty despondent that following week

Well it was a movie ..and everyone wants a Happy ending --- I don't think that any movie based on real life events follows the story exactly the way it happens. Real life is not always pretty and nice ..

Why did hollywood create the LIE? It is them whom you should be directing this anamosity towards. Joe M. just told the truth and he wasn't the only one in the group, to have said those things. He was the most famous of the movie era, thus the media exposed it more. He wasn't the only one to talk the truth of it though.

PS, telly your uncle rudy we here at Steeler Nation, say hi !!!!!!

If I remeber right joe was drafted with our pick. I'll have to look it up but damn he would been a great understudy to terry Bradshaw.

While I did like the movie, I also didn't believe it verbatim. We are all well aware of what Hollywood does to stories and films. With that being said, there was absolutely zero point in Montanna coming out and saying anything about it other than the fact that he wanted his name in the news. Perhaps his sketchers didn't renew their contract with him?

MAYBE, he didn't want to be known for carrying someone off the field, who really WASN'T carried off the field. Maybe Rudy was a ******** to Montana, somewhere along the line. These maybes could go on forever. He did it cause he did. I could care less what Montana said about "RUDY", maybe "rudy" cares......???

Why wait 25 or however many years to come out and unveil the truth?

You gents are aware that the narrative as shown on tv or the movies is not really rooted in fact, right?

That a guy says "that didn't quite happen that way" years later doesn't diminish the story told in the movie, or him for choosing when and how to disclose that which he chooses.

Lots of folks make up **** all the time, and if it fits into the narrative, no one cares (you could look at POTUS as the most glaringly obvious example).

Or maybe the guy just wanted to get his name in the news? I mean, this is the same guy who demanded $25,000+ to show up to a tribute for Bill frickin Walsh. Same guy who wouldn't show up at Super Bowl 40 when they showcased all the past MVP's unless he got paid. Plenty more instances too. I mean, he didn't quite spoil the movie "Rudy" for me. I have read and read about how fabricated it was many times. However, Montanna is a jagoff. Steeler fan or not.

Obviously, you know him better than I do. His motivation was similar to Terry Bradshaw's initial thought at attending the MVP event. The NFL has made a ton of coin $$$ off of these guys. It was about time they made $$ off the NFL. They no longer play for the nfl, they are no longer employed by the NFL. Yet the NFL wants them to volunteer their time as the NFL makes money on this event. I understand Terry's and Joe's thought process, when it came to this event. NFL does NOT volunteer for anything, they don't even donate their own MONEY, to the charities they contribute to. Joe & Terry's lash out was in direct relation to all this. I'm NOT trying to convince you either way, but last time I checked, there was this FREEDOM of SPEACH thingy and maybe Joe was just excercising his freedom.

PS Terry Bradshaw initially was NOT going to attend this MVP event. My memory doesn't recall iof he ended up going or not. It was about the MONEY $$$

I missed the memo where a player isn't allowed to want money for his services.

He may or may not be a jagoff. But the desired to get paid wouldn't headline my list if so.

It was intended to be a feel good story so Hollywood does what it does best. Fabricates the truth to fit the theme or the feel good story. Its what they do and folks buy into it and the movie industry makes hundreds of millions. So Joe told you the truth and now it puts a damper on Rudy's feel good story. Get over it!

"RUDY" is a great sports movie. One of the best made. It's kind of like when the "GERMANS" bombed pearl harbor............ It's what the media wants to make of things. If Hollywood put out a movie of the Germans bombing pearl harbor, some would believe it was the germans................ Watch Animal House sometime, college students concurr!!!!!!

Joe Cool totally knows what's up when it comes down to his loyalties! He loved Terry Bradshaw and those 70's Steelers growing up! Especially out in Monongahela, PA. I'm quite shocked Joe Namath returned back to Western, PA as well. That dude was infatuated with my mom back in the day.
