Offer Made to Edmunds

They made him an offer before he even tested free agency… it was reported it was an extremely team friendly deal… im guessing that he is just realizing he is an average guy and willing to settle

the Honey Badger must want more than the STEELERS are willing to pay or that deal would be done by now.

Mike Tomlin made one phone call to him, JUST one to entice him............ shlit Tomlin called my Aunt Molly 4 times before he figured out he had a wrong number..... Point being if the STEELERS wanted him desperately they woud be calling a lot and pushing a deal.

At current feeling I don't think he will be a topic anymore as no new news has come out about him and the team for awhile other than regurgitated enticement.

Edmunds should have been a third rnd pick, don't blame him for being picked in the first, that blame falls to the picker.

You are right in your assessment, durable, slightly above average, excellent team character, willing to work. He is that NOT all pro that teams have to have to fill the roster as opposed to making salary cap work.

The Bills have cap issues. They only have slightly more than $1M under the cap and need to renegotiate contracts just to sign their upcoming draft. They have some big ticket players they can free up money but I don't think Edmunds is worth that effort since he's just a guy.
 
bring him back but use him more in the box, in the past few years his tackling has gotten better and he has above-average speed and in the box or on the SS blitz he can cause damage if they get him to watch Troy blitzing hopefully he can adapt some of that to his game. Honeybadger probably wants 2-3 years 8 mill per year and he's on the wrong side of 30, I think shore by adding Hawkins in the 6th or 5th hopefully we can develop him and have karl push Edmunds to the max

Meh.....the rate of first-round busts is about 50% at just becoming a regular starter. As a late-round pick in the first round, I think he did ok. As a 3rd round pick as DIC has stated he would have been a steal. I know everyone wants a HOFer in round one but it simply doesn't happen. I would be ok bringing Edmunds back and starting at a good price.

He's actually on the good side of 30 as he is just about to become 30 years old

Both you and Steelwright are correct and close to what I'm saying. To me even the 32nd player in college football should be really good. Edmunds is good. He isn't a bust, he us solid. Keep him if numbers add up. If they do not look for replacement.
 
Well, you know what you get with Edmunds - covers grass well, watches receivers catch the ball, never bats down a pass, lots of time in single-high backing up furiously while a pass goes to a receiver wide open in the middle of the field.

I recently read an article where an NFL scout said that 53% of first round draft picks end up a bust. Edmunds is a solid player and really, that's what you're hoping to get for any pick in the first 4 rounds. The Steelers have drafted pretty well over-all in the first round, going back to the year 2000 to keep it within the decade. I highlighted some players that one could argue is a bust, or at least a partial bust. Jones and Burns were TOTAL busts. Of course Shazier's accident couldn't have been helped, and he was doing great for the Steelers up to that point. Bush...I'm giving him a break as last year may have been a fluke. Lastly, you have a HOF'er in Troy and future HOF'ers in Ben and perhaps TJ if he can stay healthy and perform like he has for a few more years, Maybe Pouncey a decade from now.

Over the past decade the Steelers track record in the first round has been spotty. Jones, Shazier, Dupree, and Burns all didn't receive second contracts with the team. Edmunds and Bush could join that group.

Id argue its been average the past decade… i still think tomlin gets enamored by the wrong things… its why we run to the podium and reach more than we used to and why we bring in so many first round bust’s from other teams

It's tough to build a championship team if you're top draft picks aren't performing like top players and if you lose them after one contract.

While it's true Shazier didn't get a second contract, it's kinda disingenuous to throw him in with that group and imply he wouldn't have received a second contract if he had not been injured. Also shading the barn gray with Dupree since the fact was that they couldn't afford to pay both him and Watt last year.

Not sure why Kendal Simmons, Mendenhall, Ziggy Hood and Bud are listed in bold. They were all solid starters throughout their time with PIT. Simmons started every game he played (80) including SB XL before his Type 3 Diabetes diagnosis impacted his health. Mendenhall also was solid gaining 3100+ yards in three years in between suffering year ending injuries after the first month of the season his rookie year and last year in PIT. He retired a year later. Ziggy played 10 years in the NFL, (so not a bust) primarily with PIT (5 years) and WAS (3 years). The last pick of the first round after SB XLIII. He was miscast as a 5 tech DE and didn’t have the height to be dominant in the role, but played through his first contract with 11.5 sacks and 100+ tackles. Bud was slow out of the gate, until they got Porter out of his way and Butler allowed him to flourish. He got a monster 2nd contract, but went on IR. If he returns to his explosiveness in 2022 Dupree definitely isn’t a bust. If he doesn‘t, we’ll he just helped TJ become the player he is. 2020’s 1st round was Minkah…..via the trade.
 
I definately don't think Mendenhall was a bust. I'm glad I read Ike's comment and he shows why. A lot here call him a bust due to that fatefull fumble in the super bowl. Unfortunate to happen but a player cannot be judged on one play (Earnest Byner anyone).

I agree with the original poster on 1st round needs have been not meeting the standard as far as 2nd contracts are concerned. Also why do we need 10 1st rounders to be relevant on defense. I think the new assistant DC will help change things provided those wrist cuffs aren't used.

Shazier was a very good pick and he was proving his worth and then some before his freak injury.
