No, the Steelers are NOT Trading for Teddy Bridgewater

This should quite simply be a resounding “no” but expect the national and local media to push the narrative that the Pittsburgh Steelers should trade for Teddy Bridgewater. This isn’t a slight at Bridgewater, I personally enjoy him as quarterback even after his lackluster 2020 season. He has proven to be a reliable backup and capable starter when given the opportunity, but it just isn’t a fit for the Steelers. Bridgewater has been a backup before in his career and I don’t see a reason why he would be okay with doing that again in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger, who they have repeatedly expressed their faith in for the 2021 season. Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins round out the quarterback room, Rudolph being the likely backup and someone who the Steelers brass like. Haskins has potential and is worth having on the roster to see his progression and how he matures given another opportunity.






You also have to consider salary cap into the equation as the Steelers are roughly $11.7M under according to OverTheCap.com. Factor in about half of that money will be spent on the 2021 NFL Draft class. The rest will be used on depth signings or be carried into the regular season as the Steelers like to typically do, leaving very little room to add a veteran quarterback. Even if they had the salary cap, I would question the amount of compensation a deal like this would need to get done. Let’s say the compensation for such a move would include a 2nd or 3rd round selection and a sweetener. Those 2nd and 3rd round selections have typically been the Steelers sweet spots in recent history. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Cam Sutton, James Conner, James Washington, Chukwuma Okorafor, Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and Alex Highsmith all were selections in those rounds. Why would the Steelers give up valuable draft capital for a quarterback who will turn 29 in November and hasn’t proven to be more than a serviceable backup? Instead they would be better served using such selection to draft players who can make an immediate impact this season.






If they wanted another arm to add to the quarterback room, they would be better off adding another young quarterback hoping they pan out to be the future of the franchise. So before you start to dive into hypotheticals and saying, “He is better than Rudolph,” let’s step back and take a look at the big overall picture. No it won’t happen, no he won’t magically improve the roster, no he can’t play any position you consider a need. It is fun to talk about but unrealistic.

When he came back to the league from his injury, I thought that he might be a good back up to Ben, and maybe even the next starter when Ben retired. Now we haev gone a different direction and he won't fit.

The media has proven time and again how stupid they are. The FO STEELERS has proven that being consistently up against the cap by putting a competitive team, year in and year out, on the field of play doesn't allow them to pursue a "great one" QB in free agency. Having BEN has spoiled them with career play but now they find themselves needing another franchise QB.

Wasn't Minshew kind of like Duck was here. He didn't have a very good arm. I could be wrong but either way, I don't want him. I'll take my chances with Rudolph if I had to choose between the two.
