I was thinking about this last night and shuddered...

I actually am surprised that Rog hasn't implemented this...it would, of course, be another ratings bonanza for the nfl, but I would shoot my tv.

That said, I see this eventually happening,,,because $.

Hell yeah....

That was exciting to see the Lakers jump from # 11 to # 4.....

I think it sucks for any sport! If league management has to be concerned with teams tanking, there is something wrong with your sport, the character of your players, or both!!!

I can’t imagine players, being grown men, collectively choosing to loose games for draft position, especially when you consider that in the age of free agency, not all the players will be there year to year, therefore getting no benefit in not giving their best effort on the field of play!

I’ve played sandlot football as a 30 something with bunches of dudes, some strangers and no one is taking plays off, no matter the score, because of simply competitive desire!

I'd like to see it in groups of 5. Five worst teams lotto for the first 5 picks. Second worst 5 lotto for picks 6-10, etc. SB participants are not involved and draft 31st and 32nd.

Team position can't change a whole lot, but has some variation.

I kind of like that idea. Use it for the teams who miss the playoffs. The playoff teams just pick the order in which they are eliminated.

They have ****** with the game I loved enough, no need to **** with it more.

I saw several in sports media pushing this idea because of the NFL making money off it. At some point you need to quit thinking just about making money and put a quality product out there. I hope the NFL never goes in this direction.

I fail to see how this would affect the quality of the game. If you had the possibility of the 10 best team picking in the top 10, i suppose.

By some statistical miracle, the cheatriots would get the lottery the first eight years in a row.

Seems legit

I think on the average year it is not a big deal. Look at this year. Probably three maybe four players that were justifiably first overall. Think about a couple more years when the Clemson kid declares. I think a lottery will look pretty good then.

UNTIL your team jumps from #4 to #11

Salute the nation

I know, just think about it. If you are a starter, would you really tank to get a better draft spot, so that they can take a better player, who MAY replace you. Hell no.

For the NBA it works because that's been their system. For the NFL, it ain't broke, don't fix it. Leave it be.

The Steeler May never have the number one pick again in your lifetime but with a lottery system those odds go up big time.

I’m for it.

only complete ******* idiots are in favor of a NFL Draft Lottery....of course goodell will likely go for one since ******* idiots will tune in to watch it in prime time

The NFL doesn't need this NBA ****. The NFL isn't controlled by one superstar that can be drafted. The NFL is a different monster all together. Hell most teams don't need the #1 overall draft pick to get who they want. Each team has different needs. Teams don't tank the season anyway. Coaches can be fired for bad seasons. Players can be released or not re-signed for playing poorly. It just makes no sense. However I'm shocked Roger hasn't come up with the idea to screw the league over some more.

I don't see how it would make the NFL any significant money. All it would do is create a 1 hour show where they draw lottery balls live.

If anything, it would hurt the NFL. Just think about it, As soon as the season is over, the mock drafts start. All that would be put on hold until the lottery which would probably be weeks or a month after the Super Bowl.

If the NFL had a tanking problem like the NBA, it would be different. But I can't think of any team that actively tanked.

The other big difference is that in the NBA, position and scheme doesn't matter hardly at all. In the NFL, scheme fit and need is everything. That's why you see NFL teams trade down in the draft. Because they guys rated in the top 5 may not be a fit and a team would rather have multiple picks instead of a top pick.

You will never see that in the NBA. No team is trading away the #3 pick for a couple of later picks. That's because the NBA draft is essentially over after pick 10, and in terms of impact players, it's often over by pick 5.

So in the NBA, the difference between pick 2 or pick 5 could be a franchise changing difference, so it is logical to do whatever it takes to get the highest pick you can. It's not like that in the NFL.

The NBA absolutely has a tanking problem. Teams shut it down for the year hoping for that top pick.

For the NFL, any given Sunday. Teams may play like **** but they still fight to win games. The current system is fine. It isn't broken. They keep trying to reinvent **** in the NFL. Leave it be.

The players don't tank in the NBA, the management does. The CAVS had 3 G league players on the roster, and sat starters for any small injury.
