The Steelers hosted four potential draft choices at their South Side facility, three of whom play positions the team is looking to upgrade in the draft.

Virginia outside linebacker Eli Harold, Utah outside linebacker Nate Orchard and Mississippi cornerback Senquez Golson — along with Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah — became the first pre-draft visits for the Steelers on Wednesday.

The Steelers have publicly stated that they are looking to upgrade both the outside linebacker and cornerback positions in the draft.

yes yes yes!

Move up and get quality...

Orchard seems like a diamond in the rough; but, Harold and Golson seem like reaches...

Hopefully they get an offer to move back. Because if they go CB in Rd 1, neither Orchard nor Harold will be there in Rd 2. After them, who is available that might even potentially push for significant playing time as a rookie? There will however be the Grant, Rollins and Golson types of CBs available in Rds 2 to 3.

It really sucks to have had a season that was just good enough to keep you out of position to draft the impact guys yet bad enough that you can see you have a whole lot of needs.

Uzomah looks like a great prospect. Nice thlete and catches the ball well....how's he at blocking?

Za'darius Smith Dupree's partner in pass rush at Kuntucky in the 3rd

As DE depth? Isn't he a little heavy to play OLB (274 at combine)? But heck, that's a little light for DE.

What do you think Harrison plays at? Not being a smart *** but I'll bet he is close to that weight. And he is 6 feet 4 according to one site so he may have a bit more room to add the weight than James.
It would be nice to see linebackers that don't look lighter than safeties, the last few looked rather scrawny Jones and shasier.

True. I guess he's a classic "tweener". And it would be good to have someone with a little sand in their pants manning one of the OLB positions at least. Btw, from the looks of things Shazier is adding some muscle weight out in the desert with Deebo.

I think Harrison is closer to 6' tall. Not 6' 4" .

I meant the draft prospect not James, sorry I was not clear. Also I was thinking 4 inches taller might give him the frame to carry 20 or 25 lbs more than Harrison and still have enough speed for olb spot.

The only real surprise to me is CJ Uzomah. He looks like a first round pick but plays like a 7th. There's a ton of potential there so maybe they wanted to see him up close and personal to expose why he has not been dominate in college or find out that he is a later round guy that in a year or two turns out to be a steal. Who knows.

Harold and Orchard are no surprise since both are probably second round pass rushers and the Steelers I feel won't go first round OLB with already spending a recent first on JJ. But they need to apply pressure to Uncle Jarvis at the same time. And you can never have too many pass rushers.

I am probably higher on Golson than most and that is because of his height. I feel if he was 6ft he'd be the first CB off the board. Truthfully if we can snag him in the third I think we'd have a steal and he'd probably start by the end of the year. Dude loves football and plays the QB like a fiddle. He has awesome awareness and great hands.

Ford I would suggest that based on JJs work so far and the loss of Worilds if a first round pick at the outside looks like anything but a reach they take it and may double up on it. Same thing could be said about corner back. I would not be upset if they went corner old in alternating order with either one picked first if decent value is there.

Then you do as Bermuda stated. Move up and get your guy.

But would we reach on Orchard or Harold? I think these visits are for guys they want to check out later in the draft not first round. If Vic Beasley or Bud Dupree are there at #22 yeah lets take him. But by all accounts there will be no top 5 pass rusher on the board when we draft. I think the Steelers probably have their eye on a couple of guys they want in the first round but are keeping them a secret to the public so I doubt they bring our first round pick in for a visit.

CB Marcus Peters, CB Alex Carter, and OLB Max Valles in for pre draft visits Thursday

I would be surprised if Harold or Orchard were available with our round 2 pick. We're in a tough spot because in order to move up, they'll have to give up a valuable pick for a team lacking depth. So, do we reach for an OLB in the first? I think they're hopin someone wants one of the NT or CB that may fall and they can swing a deal to trade back in the draft where Harold might provide more value. Under this scenario they would also pick up an additional late round pick. Barring that, I think they convince themselves that based upon analytics Harold is their guy or they take Collins or Brown.

If we trade down then yes I could see us taking one of those. If we could swing a deal with the Saints for our #22(780) for their #31(600) and #78(200) then I'd be all for taking a guy who might be considered a "reach" considering now we have an extra 3rd round pick to try to fill another hole on the team.

Max Valles is another intriguing prospect but I would say later round pick again. He has a ton of raw potential but will need a few years being coached up. I think he's only 21 so he has time to develop.

Interesting thoughts on what is likely to be gone by pick 22. How about this list, top 3 QBs, Top 3 left tackles Top 3 defensive line men, Top 3 outside linebackers top 3 corners top 3 wide outs one each of tightend oline other than top three tackles inside line backer. We may find one of the guys we want or at least what looks like a good pick at 22. At this point if the highest rated guy we have is a reach so be it we at least get him. Same with the next three picks. I would say it is better to take the best guy on the board if he fits the team even if the draft guys think he should have gone 10 picks later, it does not matter if the other nine do not fit what we need or the team.
