New Steeler, Coolies boy, putting in work.

Hilton is safe this year but next year watch out.

Well you have to like his workout numbers! On the minus side he only has two interceptions in three years at Houston.

Can he play Safety Coolie? The Steelers are much weaker at Safety. I'd like to see him add 5-10 pounds play safety. It looks like he will have to really stand out on special teams to make the team. Then again with Covid-19, spots might open up quickly.

I think he could play safety if needed. He is not going to move up in the box and be a run stuffer...but he can tackle well enough and is a good over all athlete.

Coach, There is more to INTs in being a CB. This boy can tackle!:

A transfer from Ouachita Baptist, Myres recorded 97 tackles in two seasons. He had 55 tackles as a senior and 47 tackles as a junior with one interception. He returned a blocked field goal 94 yards for a touchdown against Fresno State in the 2017 Hawaii Bowl.

You want to know how good those numbers are for a CB in tackling? in 12 games he had more tackles per season than all but 3 of Deion Sanders career. And his 55 tackle season beat all but one year of Deion's career. Deion played 16 game seasons. Just to put it in perspective, but the Steelers LOVE corners that can tackle. it's why he's on the team.

C'mon Coach, that's not the be all end all for CBs. Look at % of completions given up and PDs, I think that's a better indicator. A lot of times with INTs it's if they're in the right place at the right time etc. Remember Gerod Holliman (sp?) from Louisville (I think they took him in the 2015 draft), he had a college record 14 INTs the season he entered the draft. How did that work out?

Is this Alex Myres the guy they grabbed in UDFA last season or was that another guy I'm thinking of? Sorry didn't read the article yet.

Yes he was the UDFA last season....was on the practice squad last year

as has been pointed out, ints are not the end all gauge of good corner...he did have 6 PDs in 2018 and as cope pointed out....a bunch of tackles for a CB....

I agree there is more to it than INT's. Only having 2 in 3 years could mean different things. 1 ) He was avoided and wasn't targeted often. 2 ) He doesn't have good ball skills. Keeping it real if he were that good ( Option #1 ) , he would not be a rookie free agent. I would say option 2 is likely

I would like to see the % of completions given up. I would guess it's higher than what's needed as he doesn't have many PD's or INT's

6 PD's a season is not very good ( more like average ), and he didn't exactly do it the SEC or Big Ten, so I'd downgrade it a tad.

Having said that I do like his workout numbers and think he'll have a chance to be a good special team kick coverage person. The depth at safety is very thin. I'd like to see him try out for safety.

PS: Did not like the Holman pick. The guy was too slow to play in the NFL at DB. There are lots of draft picks I did not like at DB. The guys I liked made pro bowls. Go figure. IMO the Steelers undervalue ball skills, and man coverage skills, and over rate tackling ability / hitting ability for their DB's.. Good instincts and smart aren't that hard to spot. The Steelers miss that too much. They are much better off picking DB's in free agency that played in the NFL. Drafting them in rounds 1 or 2. has not worked out. I get it, you have to draft DB's because 6 of them play on Defense, and many over kicks. For the Steelers that's rounds 3-7.

**** Coolie

**** Coolie

Some have tried and yet some of those who were successful said,........ it wasn't that great..................

Ike Taylor says INTs are a poor way to judge CBs

Well Ike had 14 career interceptions in the NFL, which is probably 13 or 14 more than this Myres will have. However Ike had 134 passes defensed, which is very impressive and made a key interception to help the Steelers win a super bowl.

Ike wasn't a great player but he was clearly a good one.

We will have to disagree on this point as IKE was our shut-down CB for several years. He would cover opposing team B-E-S-T wide receiver 1 on 1 and literally shut him down. I'd say that qualifies him as a great player. EASILY top 10 in STEELERS lore.

Ike was definitely a great player

Myers is what he is..a good athlete trying to show he has a place in the NFL

He played D-2 his freshman year and impressed enough to get the attention of UH coaches. He sat out his sophomore year and started 9 games as a junior while playing in 11...he started all games as a senior.

You are one delusional fan. But you have windows to lick carry on.......

Oh I agree he was a key part of the team, just not a great player. Easily top ten in Steelers lore? Not a chance. What are you drinking Iron City?

I might bump this post if the man is cut.

I talk way over your head, and history shows I'm right often. Maybe that's the problem. Do you want to go over the DB's I panned as draft picks....like Burns, Edwards and Golson? Give Edwards a little time, you'll see. Was Davis worth our 2nd round pick? Told ya so. Dude, I can dump a cesspool of your errors over your head with that I said that is right that you thought was wrong

By contrast the guys I liked Peters. Fuller, Howard....those are top level players making pro bowls and a lot of $$$ on their 2nd contracts. Me saying I'd take Arizona's trade down and pick Howard and Simmons was a perfect bullseye. But the Steeler picked Burns and you showed your ignorance by arguing he's going to be good.

Sometimes I think you act stupid to make friends. Other times I think your really trying but....

I think he means top 10 CBs in Steelers lore. And Ike Taylor was a great player, he just had hands of stone. Ask Chad Johnson, A.J. Green etc.

You are not a draft expert I know it, everyone that has read any of your crap knows it. You can't remember one year to the next and don't study game film. people constantly have to point out the most simplistic aspects of football to you. Talk over someone's head? ******* hilarious you can't even make a coherent thought half the time.

To throw your analysis back at you I don't think you act stupid at all. I strongly feel there is zero percent acting involved, It simply comes naturally to you.

The one time you tried to watch film at someone's request you failed miserably.

You are a legend in your mind only, nobody else takes anything you say seriously.

I am sure you didn't see Golson being injury prone before he was drafted.I am pretty sure your YouTube highlight films didn't give you a peek into that outcome.

Burns was a miss out on a player for the Steelers and they hoped for the best on the next guy. It didn't work out. A **** load of drafted corners don't work out. Just a hard eval.

Your go to with fast 40's isn't the blind measure of pro bowl success no matter how many dishes you lick clean.

You simpleton ************.

I don't know how many times I and many others explained to him why the STEELERS couldn't trade BELL to Cleveland for 2- 1st round picks.

Maybe we could get a contributor in trade for coach??? Maybe two................

Times like that I questioned if he was somehow challenged and such I shouldn't pick on him. But he is just so arrogant he doesn't soak in anything. It is ok to be wrong, I have been wrong plenty times before, **** I am sure there is more on the horizon. But when you lack the ability to learn and adjust ****** opinions no matter how many times it has been blueprinted for you?

That is high level ignorance. He isn't happy at licking 3/4 of a window, he is sitting back in his luxury Datsun B210 and those windows could light up a room .
