'No' campaign to offer radical deal as latest figures show 51-49% backing for end of the union

The people of Scotland are to be offered a historic opportunity to devise a federal future for their country before next year's general election, it emerged on Saturday night, as a shock new poll gave the campaign for independence a narrow lead for the first time.
...
The plan, in the event of a no vote, is that people from all parts of Scottish society – rather than just politicians – would be invited to take part in a Scottish conference or convention that would decide on further large-scale transfers of power from London to Holyrood.

Go Scotland! I blow my nose on you English pig dogs!

If they can I think individual states/regions should be able to as well. *cough* Texas *cough*

Scotland Forever!

Alba gu bràth!

while the supreme court ruled against US State succession in 1868, there is a very good case that if the Federal Government were to violate the constitution, a State could declare the agreement void and legally leave that way. The UN has an agreement never to recognize and country that breaks off from one of its members without that members approval though, so I don't know if the world would consider it an illegal state and let the US army reconquer it... There are several other interesting legal arguments on the matter, but the above would be the best peaceable method IMO... If the CO2 rules are passed and Texas refuses to adhere to it and the Feds pull their permitting rights and funding, this could really at least be tried...

16 - 17-year-olds get to vote on Scottish independence

Scotland's independence vote Thursday represents the first time voters in the United Kingdom as young as 16 will help decide a significant matter of state

About 120,000 teens ages 16 and 17 are likely to cast ballots, estimates Graeme West, who helps run Generation Yes, an organization raising awareness for young Scottish voters. In a tight vote, they could change the course of history.

Let's hope Scotland's 16 year olds are more educated on current events than ours are....

She looks like she could screw like a champion.

Could happen.
"Soon Scotland would be choked with Scotsmen."

Wouldn't surprise me if they were more educated on current events than a huge segment of our adult population.

I got Scottish blood - maybe I can emigrate...duel citizenship, I can live in a castle - with a moat!

I agree on principle to letting 16 y/o's vote - it's their future

but at 16 you could have bought my vote for a 6 pack of Genesee Cream Ale

more power to them!

Damn, Genny cream ale was my favorite back in the day. A Genny and a bag of Combos and I was in hog heaven

Scotland gets the nukes if this passes too.

Some Irish chick gave me **** about Americans and our guns at a party a while back. I told her we are a different breed from the Irish. We told the English to kiss our *** a couple of hundred years ago, and the right to bear arms is in our DNA. I said that she would never understand it. If Scotland doesn't vote for independence today, they suck.

*******. What a bunch of *******. I'm Scotch-Irish and very disappointed. I understand the skirts now.

A good portion of Ireland is independent, you know... they broke from the union in the 20's and only Northern Ireland, which is like a fifth of the whole isle, stayed with Britain. IIRC Ireland permits gun ownership, you just have a permit and to have it locked in a safe when you are not shooting for sport. They don't allow open carry. They aren't as tight as the UK when it comes to that stuff.

I guess Scotland doesn't really want..freeeeeeeeeedoooooooooooom.WW must be turning in his grave. I've got German/Hungarian blood lines...just pass me the beer and some sauerkraut.
