While it's way to early to tell if any of the youngsters can play and we might well see some injuries during preseason ( fingers crossed ), your list is very close IMO to what should shake out. The only name I would interject would be David Johnson. They signed him back onto the team for a reason and I wouldn't think Richardson would cause a visit from the "Turk" for a vet that can play two spots, if ya know what I mean ?

Stranger things have happened I know but I see a plan somewhere in there, I'm just not sure what it is just yet.

Here are the 53 players I'd keep, not who I think the Steelers will keep.

OFFENSE: 25 players (not including Bell)

QBs: 3

Roethlisberger
Jones
Gradkowski

Given the lack of talent behind Ben, I question even keeping two backups. However, with an injury always possible and nothing on the free-agent market, all three make it.

RBs: 4

Bell (Suspension)
Williams
Toussaint
Nix
Richardson

I would prefer the Steelers look for another free agent rather than keep a guy like Richardson or Brown-Dukes, but until they sign someone, I'll go with what they have.

WRs: 6

Brown
Wheaton
Coates
Heyward-Bey
Rogers
Ayers

I'm not ready to anoint Rogers as the next great slot receiver quite yet, but the extra spot from Bell gives him a place on my roster. I'm going to assume Ayers can lock down the return role and play well enough at receiver. Tempted to keep six...

TE's: 3

Green
James
Grimble

Green's injury is a concern as is James' slight build. Grimble looks like a monster physically, but we shall see. Not much behind these three.

OL: 9

Villanueva
Foster
Pouncey
DeCastro
Gilbert
Wallace
Harris
Hawkins
Finney

I'm with Coach on this. Finney has more upside, but doesn't have the versatile that Hubbard has, which probably means Hubbard makes it.

Defense 25 players

DL: 6

Heyward
Hargrave
Tuitt
McCullers
Walton
Mathews

Pretty clear six for me. Not an impressive group this year.

LB: 10

Dupree
Timmons
Shazier
Jones
Moats
Williams
Johnson
Harrison
Chickillo
Matakevich

For has had an outstanding camp, but Matakevich has potential to be a solid backup and spot starter. Love his football character.

DBs: 9

Gay
Cockrell
Burns
Shabazz
Davis
Mitchell
Golden
Thomas
Ventrone

Specialists: 3 players

Boswell
Berry
Warren

I think it's pretty clear with these three. Unless Monday can show it under the stadium lights, it's Berry's job.

VENTRONE OUT, GARNER AND/OR ANOTHER TEAM'S CUT IN, 10 TOTAL

I think it's pretty clear with these three. Unless Monday can show it under the stadium lights, it's Berry's job.

Y'all are actually tempted to keep only 2 QBs after we used 3 last season???? Really? If our QB had a streak of 160 consecutive starts then I might be convinced, but it's absolutely an insane thought given that Ben is more likely to miss a handful of games than to start all 16.

I don't think keeping a guy like Ayers who is 99% likely to make it onto our practice squad would justify keeping only 2 QBs.

unless Ayers is lights out in the return game he will have to hope for a practice squad spot....barring injury of course

That means Coolie's favorite player (Ayers) won't make the cut.

coach has said since he was drafted that Ayers wouldn't make it....good thing his opinion doesn't mean much when the Steelers make their cuts....

They have 4 games to get through and hopefully Ayers will have a chance to show his stuff returning punts and playing out of the slot....

I think my explanation was very clear and all three made it along with Ayers on that roster.

Litos, I think Fort has outperformed Matakevich in camp so far, but I like Matakevich's future potential. I do believe he can find a spot on the PS.

It appears Bruce is fighting a tough fight with Vaughan from what ive read.

Eli Rogers is on this team barring injury or imploding during games.

We only keep 2 active every week, so what does it matter if we keep we 2 or 3 on the 53 roster?

My predictions for the 53-man roster before injuries occurred and players were released. I'll be doing an updated roster as the preseason games get underway on the 12th.

I'm likin' that site, especially when they agree with me.

I saw some stuff on there that our guru's didn't agree with too.

first...they liked Johnson over Richardson.....me too, so far
second...they have Ayers over Rodgers....we shall see
third and for some unknown reason, they added Hubbard as the 10th lineman.....maybe 'cause we have at least one lineman hurt at all times ?

interesting, I like differences of opinion...it's more thought provoking..LOL

I'm with Al on both points. I wish there was an older veteran who wanted a ring to back up Ben. We are stuck with Landry Jones. Maybe Jones would be the #2 QB on 8-10 NFL teams. He's pretty bad, and has a good OL and weapons to work with.
